"Back in ’99, I made a drum & bass tune with my mate Bob. We locked ourselves in a room for a weekend, drank far too much, and somehow came out with a track called Long Time Coming. Goldie picked it as the winner of a national competition, which was surreal enough. Then life happened, Bob passed away, and the track became one of those “I remember when…” stories.

Roughly the same time, I was making music as U4ia and F8, and a young musician messaged me on ICQ asking for feedback. She was ridiculously talented even then, the sort of talent that makes you think “why are you asking me?”

We kept in touch over the years, and she eventually became B-Complex.

Jump to October 2025.

She suddenly pops up in the comments of a YouTube video of Long Time Coming, asking me to get in touch. She was putting together a charity compilation for Victory Beats, who use music therapy to support Ukrainian veterans and families dealing with trauma.

She wanted to include our old track.

So I dug out the only surviving master (because of course I only had one. My backup policies are considerably less chaotic these days) and sent it over. And now, a mere 27 years later, Long Time Coming is finally being released, alongside artists from around the world, with all profits going to a genuinely meaningful cause.
