Exhibition "泪花(Namidabana)"
Kimie Ino

July 14 - August 2026 (closing day TBD)
Window gallery at the SCCP

Namidabana (泪花) was created during my residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. The work reflects on encounters and farewells, and on how the people we meet continue to shape us long after they are gone.
Its form resembles a single tear—not only as a symbol of sorrow, but also of gratitude, memory, and the invisible connections that remain. Carved patterns, intentional blank spaces, and platinum dots like distant stars express both absence and the quiet presence of those who stay with us in memory.
Every farewell is proof that, once, there was a beautiful encounter.

by @air_sccp

\\Our Artist in the SCCP 📍Tsai Jia-Hong//

Tsai Jia-Hong currently lives in Taiwan. She received her M.F.A. from the Graduate Institute of Applied Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts. Tsai works primarily with clay, while also incorporating video and other mixed media, to explore traumatic experiences and the perceptions and memories of the feminine body. Tsai experiments with the reciprocal relationship between “clay” and “body” in her practice, creating new connections between consciousness, flesh, and materiality through her works.

Tsai currently works as a full-time artist. Her recent solo exhibitions include “Personal Tortuous History of Flesh” and “The Cripped and Queered Vessel.” In 2023, Tsai participated in an artist residency and exhibition in Gmunden, Austria. She was selected for the Asian Cultural Council 2026 New York Fellowship and will travel to New York for the program in 2027.

近年の主な個展に「Personal Tortuous History of Flesh」、「The Cripped and Queered Vessel.」

Yakira Ament’s first solo exhibition in Japan will be held at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park.

Created during her residency at SCCP, this new body of ceramic sculptures reflects a shift in perception shaped by the landscape of Shigaraki– an ongoing exchange between clay, fire, intuitive movement and place.

Expanding her studio beyond its walls, Ament shaped works along the shores of Lake Biwa and beside the streams of Shigaraki, where weather, water, sound, and place became part of the making process. Using Raku and Anagama firing alongside natural materials gathered throughout the region, the sculptures embrace transformation and uncertainty as integral to their making.

From intimate forms to monumental hybrid presences, the sculptures carry traces of encounter between body and landscape, intention and chance, gesture and the imagined.

We warmly invite you to join us for the opening reception on Friday, 17 July at 15:00.

\\ Our Artists in the SCCP📍Yakira Ament //

Yakira Ament is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, drawing, installation, and movement.
Guided by somatic listening and intuitive processes, she creates hybrid forms and liquid dream drawings that move between figuration and abstraction.
Rooted in natural materials, her work explores cycles of becoming, elemental forces, and the subtle dialogue between dream states and internal landscapes.

During her residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, she has been developing a new body of sculptural work exploring the relationship between material and emotional transformation.
Shaped by the spirit of Shigaraki’s landscape, the work reflects on vulnerability, resilience, and the interconnectedness of the living world.

Her upcoming solo exhibition “Altered States” opens on July 16 at the SCCP gallery.

Solo exhibition “The Flower of Inner Alchemy” by zong jia yang

This exhibition takes inspiration from the myth of Penglai and the legendary search for the elixir of immortality.
In these stories, the elixir is a symbol of healing, transformation, and refinement. I see “inner alchemy” as the unique essence and spiritual vitality that exist within each person.
Although unseen, it is nurtured through lived experiences and self-exploration, gradually shaping who we are.
Rather than pursuing immortality, The Flower of Inner Alchemy reflects on the journey of becoming oneself—of learning to recognize and embrace one’s true nature, and allowing it to bloom in its own form.

taken in 滋賀県立陶芸の森 by @air_sccp
