Milton Andrew Munson’s obituary recalled his life as an Air Force veteran, a pharmacist, husband and father, and as a Nebraska football fan. That was evident in one line in the obit: “In lieu of flowers, please place an irresponsibly large wager on Nebraska beating Iowa.”

Munson, 73, died Nov. 16. The obit, written by Munson’s sons, ran in the Hastings Tribune, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.

Milton Munson’s love for the Huskers, and gambling, had to be part of his story, said Troy Munson, a neurosurgeon in Des Moines, Iowa.

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez was out for Friday's game, but Todd Munson wrote on Twitter that the Huskers would be getting some help from other places.

“If the ghost of my old man can’t will the Huskers to victory on Friday, then they truly are a lost cause.”

Unfortunately for the family, the Hawkeyes dominated Nebraska in the game's final 20 minutes to win 28-21.

But since Munson was a betting man who stuck with the Huskers (who now have lost to Iowa for seven straight years), we know there's always hope for next year.

Rest peacefully, Milton.

The U.S. Air Force is moving its electronic warfare suite from a C-130 to a business jet. Defense News' Stephen Losey shows us why and how. by @airforcetimes_

All noncommissioned officers can now apply to teach at Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachments across the United States and Puerto Rico, opening a job opportunity that previously shut out most enlisted airmen.

In the past, only NCOs who worked in the personnel and administration fields were allowed to serve in collegiate ROTC programs.

The Air Force hopes that exposing cadets to more diverse enlisted fields will offer more insight into that side of the force, get them to consider a broader range of career options and strengthen officer-enlisted relationships.

Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. John Marks of the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, on Sept. 1 became the only airman ever to log 7,000 hours in the autocannon-toting A-10C Thunderbolt II attack plane.

Marks joined the active-duty Air Force in 1987 and moved into the Reserve after 14 years.

He’s known for destroying 23 Iraqi tanks in one day in 1991, and hopes to keep flying until age 62 — two years past the mandatory retirement age.

He spoke to Air Force Times on Monday. Check out AirForceTimes.com for the Q&A interview. Link in bio.

The Nigerian air force has about a squadron worth of light attack aircraft — their pilots and maintainers trained by U.S. Air Force personnel — to fight terrorists in the African nation.

U.S. Africa Command noted the induction ceremony for the A-29 Super Tucano, a turboprop light attack aircraft, in an Aug. 31 release.

The Super Tucano can conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and precision air-to-ground strikes, according to the Africa Command release.

In less than a week, the air base that runs the U.S. military’s European and African operations has transformed into an international city, hosting tens of thousands of men, women and children fleeing Afghanistan.

Officials at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, first learned Aug. 19 that evacuees escaping the Taliban would be brought to the installation for processing, medical evaluations and temporary housing before they are resettled in the United States. By the following day, the first influx of C-17 military transport aircraft arrived, filled mostly with American citizens, Afghan nationals and their families.

The base has worked around the clock to ensure evacuees have medical service, food, water and shelter while based here under Operation Allies Refuge, officials here told reporters Thursday. More than 350 tents sit across the airfield to house the thousands of people arriving on a daily basis, They receive critical supplies from the Defense Department, the Red Cross and other partners, and undergo various processing procedures before they can get on an aircraft bound for Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.

Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, in remarks Tuesday at the Space Foundation’s annual Space Symposium, laid out changes he is setting in motion to flesh out the space acquisition enterprise as the Space Force nears its second birthday.

“My approach to any reorganization is to move quickly to get the big parts right, but be prepared to make adjustments as one learns from experience,” Kendall said in a keynote at the conference in Colorado Springs. “One area in which we have not done enough yet is in the acquisition capacity of the Department of the Air Force.”

Medical support personnel from the 86th Medical Group help an Afghan mother and family off a U.S. Air Force C-17, call sign Reach 828, moments after she delivered a child aboard the aircraft upon landing at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Aug. 21.

During an evacuation flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East, the mother went into labor and began experiencing complications due to low blood pressure. The aircraft commander made the decision to descend in altitude to increase air pressure in the aircraft, which helped stabilize and save the mother’s life. Upon landing, Airmen from the 86th MDG came aboard and delivered the child in the cargo bay of the aircraft. The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition.

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne Bass is preparing to take a “hard, holistic look” at the world of professional military education as part of her enlisted development action plan due out this fall, the service’s top enlisted leader told Air Force Times Wednesday.

Bass has spoken publicly about the budding strategy for about a year, and the service now appears ready to define where the plan is headed. Enlisted leadership wants to roll out the plan in September or October and implement it over the next 12 to 18 months, she said.

The Air Force will begin a series of 90-day deep dives into enlisted professional military education later this month, calling on airmen’s experience to drive that strategy.

The U.S. Air Force on Tuesday confirmed that human remains were found in the wheel well of a C-17 Globemaster III after desperate Afghans mobbed the transport jet as it departed Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul Monday.

The service’s Office of Special Investigations has opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the widely covered incident that went viral on social media.

“[OSI] is reviewing all available information regarding a C-17 aircraft that departed Hamid Karzai International Airport [on Aug. 16] and the loss of civilian lives — to include video documentation and the source of social media posts,” Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said in an email.

Investigators will also look into online videos and press reports of people falling from the aircraft on departure, she said. Afghans clung to the jet during takeoff and were captured on video plunging from the sky.
