100 years ago today, my Nanny (Grandmother), Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson (nee Campbell) was born in Pitt Street in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. One of the most extraordinary human beings I have ever known.

During the Second World War she married my grandfather Frank Johnson, and when peace came she crossed the world to Australia to build a new life and will eventually become a mother and grandmother. Brave, warm, and full of heart from the very beginning.

Her door was always open to anyone who needed a meal or a friendly cuppa. That was just my Nanny. Nothing was ever a drama!

As a young person growing up, we were very close and she taught me the foundation of everything that matters. Love. Generosity. Kindness towards every person you meet. Lessons I carry with me every single day. Such a special soul.

Today I’m thinking of my Papa (Grandfather) Frank, who left this world on this day. He was one of those rare people who made life feel simpler just by being in it. Practical, gentle, and full of quiet warmth. He had a way of making everyone around him feel seen and loved.
I miss him every day, and I carry a little bit of him with me always. ❤️ by @airjay73
