Thankful Thursday 🫶🏻

The foodie post.

These meals come from many different countries of Italy, Switzerland, France, Slovenia and Croatia.

Tried to stick with the local dishes but sometimes had to stray away. Lucky to try it all!

The last one is my personal favorite and a lovely representation of the backpacking lifestyle. Plastic bags and (surprisingly) wooden utensils… usually it’s an object that closely resembles a fork/ spoon.

Day 1: Tour Du Mount Blanc

Our first ever hut-to-hut hike! First of many dare I say.

The Girls took on 12.9 miles with 5,000 feet of elevation gain on our first day! Literally felt like a breeze.

Mainly because we haven’t seen each other in 2 months and there was A LOT to catch up on. The views were also incredible and had us in awe.

So much gratitude on Day 1 but the main ones were:

1. Thankful to be back together in the environment with thrive in.

2. Thankful we packed appropriately (not too heavy or light). Just right 😉

3. Thankful for the weather and forecast showing beautiful days ahead.

Disclaimer: we completed half (our intentions… don’t worry we didn’t bail it was all part of the master plan which will soon be revealed).

Therefore, we had 5 glorious days around Mount Blanc.

Darling of the Mountain Series featuring Litlefjellet

Let me tell you a story…

I’ll begin with the classic farmers tale as most mountains do. However, mine has a little alcohol involved… or maybe a lot of.

My saddle connects Romsdalen with the Vengedalen valley. I’m actually not viewed as a standalone peak but more of a small mountain ridge (hence my little mountain translation).

Romsdalhorn is the famous peak adventurists will often free climb or solo (without equipment). Originally deemed an unclimbable peak until 2 drunken farmers made a bet.

After their successes not 1 person believed them. About 50 years later a Danish mountaineer, Carl Hall, stepped foot onto the peak.

What did he find?

Art.

Paintings, drawings and sculptures. Actually art!

I especially love when art is outside. I’ve recently become a sucker for purchasing watercolor paintings from the places I’ve been.

A local artist just melts my heart.

To finding more art along my travels.

Prague and its architecture.

This city continued to amaze me.

Honestly, I’ve realized I do have a love for the history and rich architecture. Obviously helps I love exploring and unplanned finds. Instead of a mountain… it’s a city!

Put a landmark in the GPS but leave room for side quests. Happy to find this little gem. From the outside, you would never guess this was hidden within.

Art Art Art Art.

It’s free.

So maybe you have to wake up a little earlier or get home a little later. For a sunrise or sunset, it’s so worth it.

Honestly, to me the best part is the unknown. Will it be pretty? You can’t predict it. So you just hope. For clear skies and a picturesque moment.

Nature is beautiful. Experience it. Doesn’t have to be sunrise or sunset but that where you’ll find me 😉

Life is pretty simple.

1. Go get it

Find what you want and chase it.

2. Ask away

The worst case you’re back to where you were before if you didn’t ask. There isn’t much of a risk. Be brave.

3. Take the leap

Don’t settle. You don’t even have to have it figured out. Just start.

Simple living. A beautiful place to be.

Thankful Thursday <3

I’m not sure if I should be proud to admit the amount of times I hitchhiked but I will certainly tell you how thankful I am.

Each and every one of my experiences were incredible. Served a great purpose and got me to where I needed to go. Some only part of the journey but others for milesssss… whoops!

There were so many generous souls I didn’t capture a photo of because we were just living! I appreciate all of my rides through and through.

I actually wrote an article on my Substack about all of my experiences. There are quite a few! I won’t tell you how many, you’ll have to read the article to find out….

Prague.

I’m part Czech! Dobrý Den!

Had to visit the motherland. Was told it would be criminal not to visit the Prague Castle. I can attest to that statement.

Ok fine we’ll go inside too.

Very cool experience walking amongst the palace grounds and learning about the history of the different styles of architecture.

I thought it was cool this building was crafted without any power tools…

Pretty neat.

Rysy of the Tatra Mountains

It’s a shame I’ve never heard of these mountains until arriving in Europe. Good thing I know now!

Rysy is cool because it straddles 2 countries. So I technicallyyyyyyy went to Poland… not really though.

Quiet the demanding trail I will say. Thats coming from the Slovakian side. I couldn’t imagine starting from Poland.

Either way the trail is tough. Highly rewarding though, especially on a day like this.

Make sure to add the Tatra mountains to your list. Don’t have to go crazy and hike the tallest in Poland but there are many other options!

Let me tell you a story…

Gå På Tur.

The culture of Norwegians. Can be done solo or in a social setting. The best part? There is no goal or destination. The translation is going for a walk. Get outside, get moving and enjoy the fresh air.

This is the reason I am known. Before your time my name was Mount Veten. Kinda lame right? It served a powerful purpose as vete was a beacon sitting on coastal peaks.

If my light was on, enemy was approaching.

However, that was a very long time ago and those beacons are no longer standing. As a memorial you will find stone cairns.

I’ll have you know varden is cairn in Norwegian. You’ll note that is the second word in my compound name. The first?

It’s not what is Keiser but who? …
