POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
thirteen years ago, i met @johngreenwritesbooks in an interaction that epitomized early youtube: earnest and parasocial.

it’s not lost on me that HOLLYWOOD, ENDING is about exactly that. fame – and how it informs the ways we connect with each other.

(sorry!!!! earnest post!!!!!)

this week marked ten years of living in canada. it is a sentimental milestone – immigrating permanently to this country was expensive, stressful and overwhelmingly worthwhile – but i have mostly spent the week thinking about (what else?) canadian theatre.

for the globe and mail, i wrote a list of the ten canadian plays and musicals that made me understand what it means to live here. that story is linked in my bio.

but for not-the-globe-and-mail: i love living here. i love the rideau canal and the banks of lake ontario in equal measure. i love the hockey rink where my first-year exams inexplicably took place. i love my canadian cats and my canadian husband. i love – gosh do i love! – canadian theatre.

this country is not perfect. but for the last ten years – and, i hope, for the next ten, and the next however many after that – it’s been home.

thanks for having me. ❤️🇨🇦 by @aisling.murph

that’s a wrap on opening week at the stratford festival! 🥳

seven shows in six days (plus dora award coverage, an A1 feature, an interview with joel grey and a shaw review)! i’m tired! and survived the week mostly with banana nutella affogatos from the gelato shop across from the avon theatre!

my opening week reviews are online now: three critic’s picks (the musicals and midsummer), three recommended-ish-with-reservations (godot, salesman and tempest) and one misfire (hobbit).

see you in a few weeks stratty! see you tomorrow shaw! summer theatre season is upon us! ahhh!!!!

Really loved getting to spend some time with @dre373 for this week’s Arts & Books cover story, a deep dive into André’s “Double-O” season, in which he’ll play Oberon and Othello at @stratfest. (A Midsummer Night’s Dream is terrific; Othello opens in a few weeks!)

And, of course, gorgeous photos by @duanecolephoto 🐐

Tragically Hip fans (especially @elamin) have been waiting for the day that theatre critic @aisling.murph falls in love with the band.

Who knew that a new Tragically Hip musical would be the thing to get her to notice the checkerboard floors?

I’m really excited to share this behind-the-scenes look at the making of IT’S A GOOD LIFE IF YOU DON’T WEAKEN, the gorgeous new musical featuring songs by the Tragically Hip. I followed the show for about a year, and in doing so I got to witness the highs, the lows and the cameo that nearly made me cry from just a few feet away. I can’t wait to see how the work keeps growing in Kingston and beyond.

Huge, enormous thanks to all who made this possible. Link to the story in my bio. 🎸 by @aisling.murph

The Globe and Mail @globeandmail takes an eye-opening look at the creation of It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken with songs by The Tragically Hip and book by Ahmed Moneka & Jesse LaVercombe.

Globe theatre reporter and critic Aisling Murphy @aisling.murph followed the development of the musical, with all its highs and lows, behind the scenes.

Pick up a copy of today’s paper and read the full article on their site.
