It is quite spectacular just how much life can change in such a relatively short period of time.

From saying goodbye to my community back home in New Zealand to moving to Australia.
Over the past 10 months in Australia, my life has been nothing short of an incredible adventure:

I've travelled up the breathtaking East Coast, spent 6 months living in my rooftop tent, delved deep into exploring attachment styles, needs, and patterns, and mutually decided to step away from a 3-year partnership. Throughout it all, I've been embraced by a loving sisterhood, landed my very first hospitality job in Byron, experienced moments of homesickness, found expression through ecstatic dance, art, drum circles, embarked on spontaneous waterfall adventures, received approval to teach in Australia, secured a job and a home within just a week of applying, and cherished a special visit from my Dad and brother. I've even had the unique opportunity to live on community land in an eco-friendly house. And now, I find myself living by the beach once more, slowly settling into the serene beauty of Northern Rivers, NSW for the past 4 months..

Leaving New Zealand was a deeply emotional experience for me. The grief of leaving my community and loved ones was almost overwhelming. However, this transition has also allowed me to embrace introspection and reconnect with my inner self. It has also brought wonderful opportunities to explore new adventures, encounter different perspectives, and build meaningful connections with kind-hearted souls and for that, I wouldn't change a thing.

We aren't meant to journey through this world alone, and while self-reflection is vital, our need for community is innate and undeniable. I feel incredibly thankful for every conversation, connection, and soul I've encountered since being here, as well as for all the loving support of my community back home and abroad. Thank you 🙏💛 taken in Australia by @aislingefd

I was sitting in a cafe yesterday morning, writing letters to my friends and family, when an elderly man came and sat beside me. He was sipping his coffee through a straw because his hands were too shaky to lift the cup.
I couldn’t help but notice, so I asked if he’d like some help. He declined kindly.
Feeling pulled to spark a conversation, I asked if he’d been to the dawn service that morning.
What followed was a nearly 30-minute conversation I didn’t plan for and won’t forget. At some point, the tables around us had noticed our conversation.
Before I left, two separate people stopped me to say how lovely it was to witness, and that they don’t see it often anymore. That last part is what I keep coming back to. On a day we gathered to honour lives lived and sacrificed, I was reminded that one of the most human things we can do is simply turn to the person beside us and ask a question, an invitation for conversation and connection. For those who wish to accept.
He didn’t need my help. But he had a whole life worth sharing, and I almost just kept writing my letters.

Still finding the balance between the hustle and the ritual.
Turns out a morning coffee is a pretty good place to start.

Today’s lesson was taught to me by a guava tree.

This evening stroll brought more than just a beautiful sunset.

it brought a quiet kind of magic, and wisdom in the form of a wild guava tree.

A gentle reminder to pause…
to appreciate what is already here, both around me and within me,
rather than always searching for the next adventure, the next goal, the next thing to tick off.

Tonight invited me to take stock of what I already hold..

my mindset, my skills, my environment, my life as it is right now.

And maybe… that is already enough.

So, I may have fallen in love with running, and I may just be starting to understand why everyone raves about it!

Since my diabetes diagnosis in February, my life has been a whirlwind of changes and challenges. This journey has completely transformed not just my physical health, but my entire lifestyle and mindset.

I remember how heavy and overwhelmed it all felt, that first day in the hospital. My close friend from work came to visit me, bringing her loving motherly energy and a care basket to match. I remember crying to her about how I could never be spontaneous again, or be far from my phone or go out without a bag full of supplies. She held my hand and like the angel she is, in a tone only a reassuring mother knows said: “Ah, welcome to motherhood” I both laughed and cried. It wasn't sympathy, it wasn't hard cold facts, it was the light my soul needed to hear. Life wasn't over, it has simply shifted. This moment was such a pivotal mindset shift for me, because it was so true!

Much like taking care of a kid—my “little one” comes first, before anything else. Sure, I’ve got my own needs and desires, but they take a backseat to the needs of this ‘child.’ With this new level of responsibility has come a serious boost in my planning game. Before I head out, I run through mental checklists, always prepared with supplies in case my “child” gets hungry, or my blood sugar levels dip or rise. I’m constantly calculating food, time, and energy to ensure I’m ready for anything!

Looking back on my journey, joining @bft_byronbay in March and embracing outdoor running has also been another huge change in my life.

My diagnosis was the catalyst I needed to dive headfirst into this adventure and learnIng about my body in a whole new way has been the hot topic as of late. Exercise has become a key component of my management toolkit, and it’s taken me down an even deeper rabbit hole of discovery than I ever would have expected!

There’s so much more to share, and I can’t wait to dive into it all, but for now, this is simply the beginning

Celebrating stable BGL, PBs, and new learning.

Ahh life's journey...

To my beautiful soul family and friends,

These last few months have been filled with many high and lows (both physically and mentally).

While some of you may already know this, there are many whom I love that I haven’t been ready to share this journey with until now.

Earlier this year, after weeks of feeling unwell and struggling to have my concerns taken seriously, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right.
I trusted that quiet voice inside, and I’m so grateful I did because things could have been very different if I hadn’t.

It’s been a lot to process — the grief, the uncertainty, and the surrender to this new reality.
But in that surrender, I’ve found acceptance. I’ve learned how important it is to listen to your body, even when it’s hard to hear, and how essential it is to trust your own voice and use it, even when others may tell you otherwise.

This journey has shown me how fragile life can be, how quickly everything can shift. It’s reminded me of the value of health, the kind we often take for granted, the ability to see my Dad’s face again, to read, to move without dizziness... And it has also tought me how precious the people around us are. Allowing myself to be supported emotionally and spiritually has been an ongoing practice for me. Life continually emphasing the importance of this, challenging me to surrender more each time. It takes strength to be vulnerable and faith to guide us through these experiences.

I wanted to share this part of my life with you because if you are watching this, changes are you matter very deeply to me, and to all those across the waters, I miss you.

Thank you to everyone who has shown such patience, understanding, and loving support through it all. I am truly so grateful.

With love,
Aisling by @aislingefd
