It was a terrific trial to exhibit my video installation Shot Host (2026) at Prospects, the annual show by @mondriaanfonds during @art_rotterdam. Filmed between a Jewish household in Uzbekistan and an Uzbek restaurant in Queens, Shot Host asks, what happens to a culture when it moves thousands of kilometres? The video was projected inside a black box with a blue carpet. A single spot light illuminated the projector box which also served as a Vodka bar with a selection of glasses, including a Piala gifted to me in Uzbekistan by the artist Umida Achmedova @samum21. As part of the work, I periodically refilled the glasses with Vodka. For the Bukharian Jews to shot is to host. This year’s edition of Prospects was curated by @elvisgustavsson in collaboration with @daphneverberg. In my opinion, they made Prospects the highlight of Art Rotterdam and shined a light on emerging artists who are finding their voices in fascinating ways. Ecstatic to present my video installation Shot Host (2026) at Prospects, the annual show by @mondriaanfonds during @art_rotterdam. A huge applause to the curators @daphneverberg and @elvisgustavsson for their knowledge and guidance. Filmed between a Jewish household in Uzbekistan and an Uzbek restaurant in Queens, Shot Host is a non-fiction portrait of a post-soviet community adapting to life in the United States. We encounter a collage of languages and gestures that reveal how culture edits itself in different contexts. The footage is sculpted to isolate individuals from the celebratory swarm of eating, dancing and drinking. The relationship between filming and hosting is scrutinized, noting that “shot” is an anagram of “host”. Make It Fit - A Life Script“I always think too much about the future, plans and tomorrow. Today is tomorrow. Yesterday was Today. I just need to look back to understand what was going on and what is going on. So I looked back like an investigator, using “self ” as method and memory as material, trying to map out my life script, a set of patterns that conduct my daily life. This process became a performance script, It is a long, long, long script. I don’t know how long it took to form, how far back it traces, and how long the show will last. A thrill to edit a two-channel video installation with @cem_____a (a.k.a @freeze_magazine) and curator @marijnbril. 𝓒𝓻𝓲𝓽 𝓒𝓵𝓾𝓫: 𝓜𝓮𝓶𝓮 𝓓𝓮𝓫𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓼was filmed with six different cameras. Meme-makers, artists, and thinkers came together in a competitive and fun forum to debate MEMES. “Inspired by the spirit of sports, Crit Club uses competitive strategies to create an atmosphere of rivalry”. New rhetoric is generated to revive (stale, safe, static) discourse. After the live debate I commenced my two-day editing marathon. My keyboard was soaked with sweat, hormones, and GPU.
