Would you still want the AI project if the funding disappeared?

That’s worth asking before you apply.

Eligible Alberta businesses can access AI adoption funding through PrairiesCan. You don’t have to sell AI software to qualify.

But the business funding is repayable. It covers up to 50% of eligible costs, with a minimum contribution of $250,000.

Before filling out an application, write down what the problem costs you now, what you expect AI to improve, and how you’ll measure the difference.

For a food processor, that might mean less product waste. For a manufacturer, fewer unplanned equipment stops.

If you can’t explain the value without mentioning the funding, the project needs more work.

Save this for your next AI budget discussion. taken in Alberta by @aiwithzak

Software doesn’t think for your organization.

Leadership does.

A tool without a strategy is just overhead with a good demo.

Alberta’s next advantage may be built on four things, infrastructure, provincial data sovereignty, workforce upskilling, and guardrails.

Alberta has always known how to build around real assets.

Energy. Agriculture. Industry. Infrastructure. Execution.

Now a new layer is emerging.

One built on infrastructure, because AI needs power, capacity, and real-world systems.

One built on provincial data sovereignty in Alberta, because the value created here should not quietly leave here.

One built on upskilling the workforce, because the future belongs to regions whose people know how to work with AI.

One built on guardrails, because adoption without trust, governance, and responsibility will not last.

That is the thinking behind AlbertaAIAdvantage.ca.

Where it is aimed at exploring what this moment could mean for Alberta, for our businesses, for our workforce, and for the leaders willing to move early.

Because this is not just about using AI. It is about building a smarter, stronger, and more sovereign kind of advantage.

I wrote and built AlbertaAIAdvantage.ca to share the vision. Visit the site to learn more.

The real AI gap between companies isn’t technology. It’s this.

We track revenue. We track margin. We track customer acquisition.

Almost nobody tracks how fast their organization learns and adapts.

In an era where AI is rewriting what’s possible every quarter, the speed at which your leadership team can understand, decide, and move is one of the most important competitive variables you have.

Slow learning organizations will not be outspent. They’ll be outpaced.

Executive AI education is one of the highest-ROI investments a leadership team can make right now.

Let’s talk about what that looks like for your team.
💻 Visit ExecutiveAI.ca to learn more on how you can stay ahead and a part of the conversation.

You’re accountable for growth and risk.
AI now touches both.

If you’re leading a team right now, AI is already on your desk.
The question is whether you’re reacting to it or designing around it.

You don’t need to become technical.

You do need clarity.

When AI shows up in leadership meetings, it usually sounds like this:

Should we use it?
Are we behind?
Is it secure?
Who owns it?

Those are real questions.
But they’re not the first ones.

The first questions that I believe that you should ask yourself is.

• Where does this improve revenue
• Where does this reduce cost
• Where does this remove friction across departments
• What needs to be fixed underneath before we automate anything

Security maturity.
AI results sit on top of those layers.

An AI roadmap turns scattered conversations into a sequence.
It gives you a structure to move forward without guessing.

If you want the same roadmap framework we use with leadership teams, comment Roadmap and I’ll send it to you.

Or visit AIroadmap.ca and let’s design it properly.

Alberta might already have one of the biggest advantages in the AI economy, and most people aren’t talking about it.

🤖 Comment “Alberta” and I’ll send you my full Alberta AI Advantage presentation.

When people think about AI, they usually think about software.

Chat tools. Apps. Automation.

But the real shift happening right now is infrastructure.

AI runs on electricity.
On grid stability.
On large-scale capital.
On industrial execution.

And Alberta understands all of that.

We’ve built megaprojects.
We manage complex energy systems.
We know how to operate at scale in tough environments.

The Alberta AI Advantage is about turning that strength into long-term leadership:

• Energy powered AI infrastructure
• Distributed compute that includes rural communities
• Retaining our industrial intelligence value
• Aligning policy, power, and private capital

This isn’t about chasing trends.

It’s about recognizing that Alberta already has the foundation to become a North American hub for energy-backed intelligence.

If you’re a business leader, policymaker, investor, or operator in Alberta, this is the strategic conversation worth having.

Comment “Alberta” and I’ll send you the full presentation.

Until next time, stay curious!

Episode:
AI Readiness Assessment for Executives Using the FLIP Framework

Here’s what many organizations miss as AI challenges are rarely about tools.

They are about alignment, measurement, and leadership clarity.

In this episode, I walk through a practical executive assessment you can use immediately:

1️⃣ Fluency, can your leadership team explain AI in clear business language?
2️⃣ Literacy, do decision makers understand what AI can and cannot realistically do?
3️⃣ Impact, are initiatives directly tied to measurable revenue, cost, productivity, or risk outcomes?
4️⃣ Preparedness, do you have governance, data readiness, and accountability in place?

If even one pillar is underdeveloped, your AI strategy is vulnerable.

The FLIP Framework is the structure I designed to help executive teams assess capability honestly and connect AI to real business performance.

You can take these four pillars into your next strategy session and evaluate where you stand in less than 30 minutes.

💭 If your leadership team scored each pillar from one to ten today, where would the disagreement start?

Until next time,
ZAK

I keep coming back to this image from the spiral tunnels viewpoint near Yoho National Park.

Not because it was lost.
But because it still has more to say.

📸 Taken by Harry Pollard in the early 1900s, this photograph has lived in archives for over a century.

It’s been seen, but not always understood in the context of the lives, the landscape, and the history it holds.

Our goal with the FOLKLY project isn’t to change the photo.

We’re not trying to modernize or replace black-and-white with colour.

We’re here to support the story.

By digitizing and carefully colorizing images like this, our team is working to help the next generation connect with history in a way that feels real, without erasing the authenticity or the patience of preservation.

Using large language models and semantic mapping, we’re exploring how AI can help surface the meaning behind archival moments.

Who was there.
Why it mattered.
And how these images fit into the wider cultural memory.

With FOLKLY, we’re not reframing the past, we’re building bridges so it can be felt, not just observed.

History isn’t forgotten.
Sometimes, it just needs a new way to speak.

I look forward to sharing the ongoing development of this project that is near and dear to me, as many of you know I am a history buff that is in awe of how things were built, formed and were by the people of that era - they laid the bricks and foundation for the life we have here today.

AI agents don’t replace people.
They remove the weight that slows them down.

The routine.
The repetitive.
The work that eats up time but doesn’t build momentum.

When that load is lifted, your people get to focus on what really drives the business forward.

Decisions. Growth. Results.

This is how smart teams scale.
With clarity and capacity.

Not just more hours.

I’ve always believed history doesn’t belong only behind glass. It belongs in motion.

If you know me, you know I care deeply about history and heritage. Not as nostalgia, but as living infrastructure. The stories that shape how communities see themselves and decide what comes next.

That belief is what pulled me into building Folkly.ai with the team.

Most collections already hold enormous value.

The problem is access.
Boxes that never get opened.

Archives that require insiders to navigate.
Stories that fade simply because they are hard to reach.

AI, when used carefully, changes that. It can help organize, surface, and connect historical material without stripping away context or meaning. It lets small teams do work that used to take decades.

It turns preservation into something active, not static.

In 2026, we start applying this in the real world with partners.

Museums.
Discovery centres.
Historical societies.

Communities who want their stories to stay alive and usable, not just stored.

We’re beginning in Alberta, because home matters.
And we’re growing thoughtfully.

If you or someone you know is curious about participating in our pilot or exploring what this could look like in your space, we’re open to conversations.

Most teams aren’t short on talent.
They’re short on time.

The real cost isn’t people doing hard work.
It’s people stuck doing the same work over and over again.

That’s where AI agents come in.
They run the routine.
Your team runs the results.

If you’re serious about scaling with AI, start by freeing up your people.

This is what the AI journey looks like.
Layered. Fast-paced. Always shifting.

It’s not only about reaching a peak.
It’s about staying on track while the terrain keeps evolving.

What worked six months ago is already outdated.
The tools are better.
The stakes are higher.

The opportunities are real.

We’re learning. Testing. Building.
And sharing what matters as it happens.
