🏠Apartment 1 Tour of my Southside Chicago 2-flat is now on YouTube. Link in bio. This one means a lot to me. I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, and I know firsthand how much of an impact stable housing (or the lack thereof) can have on a person’s life. Today, I’m grateful to be on the other side of that story; not just owning property, but creating clean, furnished, affordable housing for people who may be saving, relocating, rebuilding, or simply trying to figure out their next move. We’re in a real housing affordability crisis. Rent, mortgages, utilities, deposits, furniture — it all adds up fast. A one-bedroom apartment can easily cost $1,200+ per month before move-in costs. Through PadSplit, members can access a fully furnished room with utilities included at a much lower entry point. It’s not for everyone, but for the right person, it can be a bridge. I invested over $240K to acquire this 2-flat and over $100K into renovations because I believe people deserve to live with dignity. I could’ve cut corners, but I wanted the members here to have a clean, safe, comfortable place to call home. 👊🏾🛀 This first unit is now fully rented: 5 bedrooms. 2 bathrooms. I got the keys. 🔑 For most people, that might just mean buying a property… But for me, it means something entirely different. I spent the first 10 years of my life in and out of homelessness—living in shelters, unstable environments, and places that never really felt like home. So to now be in a position where I own a two-flat in Chicago… and can provide housing for others? That’s bigger than me. This didn’t happen overnight. I spent the last 2.5 years saving, sacrificing, and living in a garden unit with a roommate just to put myself in position for this moment. And even now—it’s not perfect. The property needs work. The neighborhood needs care. But that’s the mission. Because I know what it feels like to grow up in tough conditions… I’m committed to improving what I have, building something meaningful, and creating a better environment for the people who live here. This isn’t just about real estate. Before we close out the month of May, want to acknowledge the alumni spotlight I received from @urbanalliance as Chicago’s May 2025’s Alumni of the Month. I initially engaged UA in 2016 as a high school senior before graduating from @cicslongwoodhighschool in 2017. UA provided professional development opportunities, mentorship, and an opportunity to complete a year long internship with @salesforce working within their mid-market sales and client solutions teams. I later partnered with @urbanalliance again to intern with @activecampaign while a college sophomore at @depaulu as a Summer Sales Operations Data Analyst. I’m thankful for the connections I made and continue to cultivate. Extremely grateful to @ua_chi_alumni for the recognition and honored for the opportunity to be a keynote speaker at next month’s High School Internship Program culminating event. Two months ago, on March 22nd in Detroit, MI, I became the youngest brother inducted into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Midwestern Region Hall of Fame at the 93rd Annual Midwestern Regional Convention. This honor reflects my ongoing service to the fraternity—starting with my time as the 67th Midwestern Regional Assistant Vice President (2020–2021). I led during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentored every MwrRAVP that followed, delivered key strategic initiatives, and now continue to serve as Chairman of the Commission on College Brother Affairs. When I ran for RAVP, my platform was focused on growth, collaboration, and operational excellence. But life had other plans. Very quickly, that platform had to pivot into a mission of supporting our brothers and the communities we serve through turbulent times. What most people see are the accolades. What they don’t see are: (1) The countless all-nighters I pulled drafting plans & speeches while still leading a chapter. (2) The Board proposals that got rejected. (3) The tears, the self-doubt, and the COVID diagnosis (pre-vaccine). (4) The countless make-up assignments I scrambled to finish to stay afloat academically. But God! Through His grace, a steady hand, and the village of brothers, mentors, and family who poured into me—I grew into the leader He called me to be. My time as AVP showed me the power of moving with urgency, compassion, and a “by any means necessary” mentality when it comes to service. It’s those same lessons that gave me the confidence to launch @ruckerinsights — my startup consulting firm helping entrepreneurs launch and market new businesses. This Hall of Fame moment is a reminder that faith, service, and heart will always outweigh the obstacles. The marathon continues. Thank you Brothers @apa1906network @alphamidwest1906 for the honor.
