Ap phle Bharatiye hai!

The number keeps moving. Only the impact lasts.

For me, success is not just about building personal wealth. It is about building something that creates value for people, strengthens the country, and leaves the next generation with more opportunities than we had.

We quit our jobs in 1976.

Six of us — Shiv Nadar, Arjun Malhotra, Yogesh Vaidya, Subhash Arora, D.S. Puri and I — believed the microprocessor would change the world.

No startup ecosystem. No venture capital. No collateral. Just conviction.

We pooled together ₹1.87 lakh, worked out of a small barsati in Golf Links, Delhi, and set out to build an Indian computer.

We even started selling a computer that was still being designed — with nothing more than a brochure and a mock-up.

The first breakthrough came from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras. Then came businesses, tough competition, and the belief that technology should be useful, accessible, and built in India.

That journey became HCL.

Fifty years later, I still think about that tiny room, that unfinished computer, and the courage to knock on the next door.

Dream big. Take the risk. Just Aspire.

Happy 50th, HCL.

What a journey it has been. by @ajaichowdhry

One day, encryption as we know it will stop working.
That day has a name: Q-Day.

It is the moment quantum computers become powerful enough to break systems like RSA—systems that quietly secure almost everything online today.

Some say it could happen as early as 2029.
But here’s the real problem—

when it happens, it won’t feel like the beginning.
It will feel like we’re already late.

The good news is that we already have indigenous software and hardware capabilities to secure our networks.
But we need to move fast.

The question isn’t when Q-Day arrives.
It’s whether we’ll be ready before it does.

Addressing the graduating Class of 2026 at the 16th Convocation of ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad, was a wonderful opportunity to share a thought close to my heart.

A lesson from my guru, the late Dr C.K. Prahalad, has stayed with me: A > R. Aspiration is greater than Resources.

To the graduating students, don't let what you have today limit what you can achieve tomorrow.

Just aspire.

Every once in a while, a moment makes you pause, look back, and appreciate the journey. This was one such moment. Feeling deeply grateful. by @ajaichowdhry

Technology transfer alone cannot give us a lasting advantage. We need to invest in our own research, build intellectual property and create technology that we can truly call our own.

That is how we build long-term strategic advantage for India.

I had a wonderful interaction with students from across the country during I.I.M.U.N.’s Leadership Tour, discussing leadership, career choices, entrepreneurship, and the opportunities that lie ahead for young people.

What makes initiatives like I.I.M.U.N. (India’s International Movement to Unite Nations) important is their focus on preparing young people for the world beyond classrooms. By encouraging dialogue, building communication skills, and fostering global awareness.

It was encouraging to see their curiosity and the questions they had about building businesses and creating something of their own.

One thing I shared with them is that you don’t need to have everything figured out to get started. Aspiration gives you a direction. Action sets you on the path. And often, the most meaningful journeys begin before you have all the answers.

Banning Chinese CCTV imports is an important step, but how do we secure the networks and systems already in use?

In this conversation, I spoke about an Indian startup that has developed a quantum chip and believes it can be deployed across existing networks to make them more secure.

This is the kind of innovation India needs to encourage. By working with our own startups and giving them opportunities to deploy their solutions at scale, we can strengthen cybersecurity, reduce dependence on foreign technology and build greater confidence in our digital infrastructure.

India has the talent to develop these solutions. We need to create more opportunities for them to reach the real world.

Every business wants to stand out, every entrepreneur wants to build something unique, and every product wants to be seen as better than the competition. But the reality is that being different is not always possible or even sustainable.

This is where the concept of temporary monopolies becomes interesting.

The key is to use this time wisely. Because sooner or later, competition will catch up. The companies that survive and grow are those that continue to innovate, rather than relying on the advantage they created yesterday.

For a long time, I have been hearing that India is zero in AI. I wanted to look beyond this statement and examine the different layers of the AI stack, from indigenous models and voice AI to semiconductors and specialised AI applications.

What I found is that India has opportunities across several of these areas, and we need to recognise and build on them.

I have put my thoughts together in this piece. Would love to know what you think. Do you agree?

An autobiography that reads like fiction.

For Dr. Ajai Chowdhry, it meant moving beyond the conventional format and bringing the story to life through deep research, unexpected anecdotes that read almost like fiction. In this conversation, he shares the thinking behind his book 'Just Aspire' and the response that made the approach worthwhile.
