Grandpa Sonny is one of the very first people I remember making me laugh. He’d wait for you to eat lil smokies at Christmas then he’d show you he was missing fingers on his hand and would ask if that was them on your plate. I used to walk to his house by myself and eat drumsticks with him on the couch. He’d smoke cigarettes and we’d watch both airplane movies back to back. When he laughed I’d laugh extra hard. I wanted him to know I was in on the joke too. He had big teeth and a big smile. To me he was like bugs bunny come to life. My grandma would garden in the backyard and he’d pull a bulb out and pretend to take a bite and spit it out like it was gross and he would catch me watching him and act shocked and embarrassed like he didn’t expect to see me there. Then right after he’d smile real big and I would smile right back at him. During serious conversations he’d wait for you to look over at him and would put one of his finger nubs in his nose and cross his eyes so it looked like he was scratching his brain. One time we were in a hospital waiting room and he told a joke about the soft spot on a baby’s head that was so gross I’ll never repeat it out loud for the rest of my life. But then afterward when his audience was silent he’d scrunch his nose up and laugh hard enough for everyone else that didn’t and he’d just really sell the shit out of it hahahah I love him. Gonna miss the guy big time. ❤️ by @ajdeluxe
