I grew up in church because it was required of me, but as I got older, I wanted to find God for myself. That’s when I started attending non denominational churches and built my own relationship with Him. Since then, God has taken me through highs and lows and made it clear that He has a plan for me. The scary part is knowing what’s right and still choosing wrong. I know I’ve got to be better not just say it, but live it.

Growing up, I moved around a lot, so I was always making new friends. It taught me how to connect with almost anyone, but it also created a fear of losing people and having to start over. Then in 2019, I lost my grandma, one of the closest people in my life. I never expected to lose her so young, and it gave me a deeper fear of losing the people I love.

I’ve been 327 pounds. I’ve been 190. I’ve watched my body change over and over, but somehow, I’ve never stopped fighting with the person in the mirror. The old AJ would be proud of who I am today. Yet the version of me standing here still feels like he isn’t enough. Maybe the hardest part of my fitness journey was never losing the weight it was learning to stop letting my appearance determine my worth.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that all you really need is your how and your why. You can always learn the how, but if your why isn’t strong enough, you’ll eventually stop pushing when things get hard. Some people spend decades searching for their purpose. I’ve had the same purpose and vision since I was 17, and God has made it clear what He’s called me to do. Yet somehow, I still question myself, my worth, and whether I’m capable of it. Sometimes, even when something feels like it was meant for you, it can still feel too good to be true.

Moving around so much growing up taught me to fear loss, but it also taught me to fear being alone. Alone with my thoughts, my insecurities, and everything I try to distract myself from. As I’ by @ajgwuapoo
