✨ Dryland Derby Weekend Recap ✨ Part 2 ✨

@b_de_blaring and the girls! Breeze and Rouge.

Rouge and Breeze are a mother daughter duo. Breeze might be the smallest dog in our kennel but that doesn’t stop her from working hard and running fast. She’s a quick little bullet and loves the fast pace sprint dog life. Her mom Rouge is a bit more of a diva and prefers the perfect trail conditions indoors order to give 110% effort. But she loves running with her puppies nonetheless!

Thank you Brooke for taking the girls out and letting them have fun on the trail! taken in Chugiak Dog Mushers Association by @ak.dogz

Part 1 of 2026 Dryland Derby Recap!

Be prepared for lots.

Starting off with the best old man! Vally came out for the weekend at 10 years old. He’s a pretty spectacular old man. He’s run the Fur Rondy with his past mushers, several of my first limited class races, and he’s my go to Jrs. Dog when the kiddos need a dog to race. He’s got the best most kind temperament and so much heart. These days he is a full time house dog, and the best house dog if you ask me.

He is also my favorite canicross partner as he loves to go, but he’ll go at your speed, if you want to go fast he’ll go fast, if you need to slow down he slows down. He’s an all around awesome dog!

My first time running canicross in 2023 I ran the 1.8 course in 18:05. This past weekend I ran it in 13.28 & 13:34. Very proud of not only Vally for showing up and doing his job flawlessly but my self for putting in the work and staying consistent this season.

Vally, Orva and I took home First in the Women Overall Season Points.

And Vally and I Finished šŸ„‡ in the 2026 Dryland Derby Recap- Woman’s Canicross. Which I think is the first race with competition I’ve won. Yay! šŸ˜‰šŸ’•

Rondy Recap Part 2 ✨

The weather was unusually cold. It was -25°F at my house while loading the dogs that morning, and it finally warmed up to -18°F by race time. The dogs, truthfully, don’t mind this weather too much. I, on the other hand, prefer slightly warmer temperatures.

The trail was extremely hard and fast, and in absolute pristine condition thanks to Jeremy and his incredible grooming crew.

I had a pool of 16 dogs who I felt were capable of making it through Day 1. The plan was to take it slow, trust the dogs, and enjoy the ride.

I took 14 dogs out on Day 1 and dropped two dogs each day, finishing Day 3 with 10.
Only three dogs in my pool—Candy, Coco, and Orca—had run this race before with their previous mushers. Two others, Annex and Anvik, were yearlings I bred and raised from the ground up. They were key components to a successful run, and I was incredibly proud of how they performed as a team in a group full of young dogs.

Out on the Trail
Overall, it was an extremely peaceful experience on the trail, with lots of spectators lining the route.
In the first 1.5 miles of Day 1, as we were coming down Cordova Hill, we ran into a moose on the trail. We had a quick pause while we waited for our friend Nathan Sterling, who was on a snow machine, to come clear the way.
We ended up having more encounters with moose than dog teams! The only pass we had the entire event was with one of our good friends, Mike Parker, and the Northern Whites.
The dogs executed their jobs like the total professionals they are. I couldn’t have been more proud of how they performed.
Looking Ahead
This rookie run was everything I could have hoped for and more. From the incredible community and volunteers to my support crew, family, fellow mushers, and most importantly, the dogs who carried me down that trail—I’m incredibly grateful.
We can’t wait to see what the 2026/2027 season has in store for us! taken in Anchorage, Alaska by @ak.dogz

Part 1 of My 2026 rookie run in the Fur Rondavus World Championship Recap.. It was a thrilling one, to say the least.

It was such an honor to compete in such a prestigious championship event, with so much history and community tied to it. To make it even more special, it was held in the town I grew up in, less than 50 minutes from our place. How special is that?!?

The People Behind the Race
First, I want to thank my fellow mushers and competitors. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and they truly made my rookie year special.

I have to laugh a little thinking about when Jeremy introduced the rookies at the draw. He mentioned that we all had years on the runners and loads of experience.

Meanwhile, this was only my fifth open race ever and my second year racing open class. It truly was the perfect rookie run.

I also want to thank the community, my friends, clients, family, and supporters, all of the incredible volunteers who make this race happen, and the City of Anchorage for such a spectacular weekend.

I truly couldn’t have made it through the weekend without my support crew and family. It was honestly incredible to see how much this community pulls together to make this race happen.

Getting to the Start Line
I have been competing in dog sports for over 20 years and racing for five. I’ve competed in hundreds of club-level events across a variety of sports, as well as several regional and national events. I’ve even traveled to Europe to represent the USA in agility.
And yet, I have never been as nervous as I was preparing for this event.

All three mornings, I felt extremely nauseous. I just kept hoping that once I hopped on the runners and hit the trail, everything would balance out.
And it did… mostly. šŸ˜‰

We also had a slow training season. I had to take seven weeks off during prime training time for travel, and we had a rough weather year. Because of that, the dogs had only gotten up to 22-mile runs going into a 25-mile race, three days in a row.

To say I had some nerves going into this would be an understatement. taken in Anchorage, Alaska by @ak.dogz

First Dryland race in the books for 2026!!! We had 24 dogs from our kennel racing with 7 different competitors, making up 18 different teams between. 3 of our RogueXCharming puppies had their first race and killed it!

Super happy with how these dogs are maturing. Looking forward to another epic season on the runners behind these dogs…

Now @ethan_5.9l and I are packed up with a van full of dogs headed to Nikiski for FastCAT! šŸ’Ø

It’s your birthday… you would be turning 6 today… one day I’ll sit down and go through the pictures. I’ll write down stories of our adventures, you didn’t have a stack of titles like your dad, but man you had his heart, and his drive, and his eyes. And I miss that so much…
