POSTS STORIES REELS

Yoga isn’t asking you to become someone better.
I think this is one of the most misunderstood things about the practice.
We live in a culture obsessed with becoming.
Become healthier.
Become more successful.
Become more productive.
Become more spiritual.
Even yoga can become another place where we measure ourselves by what we can accomplish.
A deeper pose.
A longer meditation.
A quieter mind.
But after decades of practice, yoga has taught me something very different.
The practice isn’t always about adding more.
Sometimes it’s about removing what keeps us from recognizing what’s already there.
The expectations.
The comparison.
The stories.
The identities we’ve outgrown.
The constant belief that somewhere out there exists a better version of ourselves we’re supposed to become.
The Sanskrit word avidya is often translated as ignorance or misperception.
It’s not simply that we don’t know enough.
It’s that sometimes we don’t see clearly.
And perhaps one of the great invitations of yoga is to clear away enough of the noise that we can see ourselves again.
Not the perfected self.
Not the healed self.
Not the enlightened self.
The self underneath all the becoming.
Maybe that’s why, after all these years, I still return to the mat.
Not to become someone else.
But to remember.
✨ What if your practice this week wasn’t about improving yourself—but meeting yourself?
In devotion to your highest self,
Akasha

The Sacred in the Ordinary

Most people believe that living a spiritual life means turning away from the material world.

I don't believe that's why we're here.

We're here to spiritualize the material.

Wear the beautiful clothes.

Adorn yourself with jewelry.

Drive the car you love.

Create a home that nourishes your soul.
Enjoy the art, the food, the experiences, and the abundance life offers.

None of these things are the problem.

The moment they begin to define your worth, your identity, or your capacity for joy, they become a prison instead of a gift.

Everything material is impermanent. It will eventually change, fade, break, or disappear. If your inner state crystallizes around what cannot last, suffering becomes inevitable.

The spiritual journey isn't about rejecting the world.

It's about learning to move through it with an open hand instead of a closed fist.

Enjoy the beauty.

Celebrate the abundance.

Just remember where your joy truly comes from.
Xo 😘, Akasha

I have been teaching for a very long time, and somehow I am still endlessly fascinated by it.

Not because I have all the answers.

Quite the opposite.

Teaching asks me to stay curious. To keep learning. To keep finding new ways of understanding—and explaining—things I've explored for decades.

And then there is that moment when something you've been talking about suddenly lands for someone.

You can almost see it happen.

I still love that moment.

Maybe that's why, after all these years, I continue to think of myself as a student first.

Teaching is simply one of the ways I keep learning.

YTT 200 Starts next month with @liftyoga

ps. Thank you @supercooperadventures for the photo:) by @akashasearcey

Some of the moments I loved in October: a walk, the moon over the lake, food I made, time with my dear friends, and little things that made me smile.
This is part of the practice, too. Paying attention to what nourishes me—and making room for it again.
As November begins, try this: remember one moment that brought you joy, then make space for something like it on your calendar.
What’s one thing from October you’d like more of this month? 🤍

Movement. Breath. Gratitude.
This is Prana Pulling with Three Gifts—a practice I use to shift my energy and reconnect with a sense of clarity and groundedness.
Each round begins with ten rhythmic breaths: inhaling as the arms reach up, exhaling as they draw down.
Then, hands to heart. Bring to mind something you’re deeply grateful for. Give yourself time to feel it—to notice what happens when you rest your attention on something precious.
Three rounds. Three gifts. Space to receive.
Keep the breath comfortable rather than forced, and return to natural breathing if you feel lightheaded.
What’s one gift you’re grateful for today? 🤍 #PranaPulling #breathpractice #gratitudepractice #mindfulmovement #akashasearcey by @akashasearcey

There is so much I still want to experience.
Places I want to see. Things I want to create. Connections I want to explore.
And I want to make room for that excitement while honoring the peace I’ve learned to value.
For me, that means noticing how an experience feels beyond the initial rush. Can I be myself? Can I move at my own pace? Is there room to breathe?
I believe life can feel expansive and grounding at the same time.
What does that combination look like for you? 🤍

Embodiment is a practice. And it can be challenging.
Most of us want the information. It’s easy to consume. It’s fast. It’s entertaining. There’s something satisfying about learning something new.
But practicing what we’ve learned—long enough for it to become something we live—asks more of us.
Some days, it’s very quiet. Some days, it’s boring. Often, it’s unflashy. It’s returning to something familiar and staying curious enough to listen.
Even after more than 30 years of practicing and teaching, I’m still doing this work. Noticing when I’m going through the motions. Coming back to my breath. Making space to feel what’s actually here.
The books, courses, and certificates can offer us something valuable. But we have to give ourselves time to practice, integrate, and embody what they teach.
For me, today, that begins here.

What does it actually mean to thrive?
I’ve been thinking about how easily we can measure our lives by what we’re accomplishing. How much we’re doing. Whether we’re growing, improving, and moving forward.
And there are seasons when growth is exciting. When we’re creating, building, and saying yes to new possibilities.
But I’ve learned that thriving can also happen in the quieter seasons.
In the moment we recognize that something no longer feels right.
In the decision to rest without explaining why.
In the friendships where we can be honest about how we’re really doing.
In the small things that remind us we’re here: a walk outside, a deep breath, a moment of laughter, a sound that brings us back to ourselves.
Life doesn’t have to be perfect for us to experience moments of aliveness and meaning. And what allows us to thrive can change as we do.
So I’m curious: What does thriving look like for you in this season of your life? 🤍

🌕 Comment MOON and I’ll send you my free Full Moon Ritual.
What might you notice if you gave yourself a few quiet minutes tonight?
I love working with the moon as a reminder to pause and pay attention. To acknowledge what has come into view, appreciate what has supported us, and consider what we’re ready to loosen our grip on.
Your ritual can be simple. A comfortable place to sit. A few easy breaths. A little sound. An honest moment with your journal.
I’ve created a free Full Moon Ritual sheet to guide you, with gentle breath and sound practices, reflection prompts, and a symbolic release.
✨ Comment MOON below and I’ll send it to you, so you can make a little space for yourself tonight.
