Welcome to the Matsubuchi family reunion with 47 happy gatherers. Our family is growing rapidly with cousins and 9 years ago we started tradition of reunions every 3 years.

Of the clan's aunts and uncles (my dad had 9 siblings), one aunt is still thriving at 89. We have an in-memoriam slideshow to pause and honour our parents and cousins who have passed but certainly not forgotten.

4 days of fun events and always food-focused. It's not a Matsubuchi gathering without too much food and deliciousness! It's a herculean effort to herd this team; although several couldn’t attend, I so appreciate family flying in from the US and across Canada to invest time in creating memories with the next generation. The Wild Life by @brandysaturley is a must-see @millerartgallery . The pop modernism style is vibrant and captivating storytelling. I loved all of her pieces; uplifting art reflecting her explorations of Canadian culture and landscape.  The first image is an exceptional piece: a commissioned painting by The Tragically Hip, reproduced for a limited-edition poster. All proceeds of this painting are generously donated to the Miller Art Gallery. Here is a small peek of the exhibit. Time goes by fast and slow. It’s been a year today of many firsts without Mom. I hear her voice, laughing and scolding.

Sharing pictures helps me remember Mom, and that will be a lifelong practice. If Dad had passed in social media times, I would have shared the same way. Sadly I have few photos of Dad but I can clearly hear his voice and words that were ever patient with me.  
I’m short on words but the new plaque where Mom and Dad are nested sums it up:

Foodies, explorers and generous souls.
They made life a celebration.
Love does’t end.
It just finds a new way to stay.

I’m finding new ways to hold Mom and Dad close.

And they’re off! A year ago was the last time Mom enjoyed the horse races. 5 weeks later, she passed, and I still find myself looking for her.

She LOVED the ponies. My closest family returned to the track for a special tribute today.   The last horse I recall Mom cheering for was #5. I bet on #5 in every race, and 6 out of 8 races, #5 won money. I had the best winning streak ever and I’m sure Mom had a hand in that. I miss Mom deeply but it’s days like today, that she continues to bring joy and fun to our lives. #akemiandmom #matsubuchiladies #keepingmenoriesalive #familyfunathorseraces #momlovedtheraces #5isthewinner by @akemimats
