🎟️ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗢𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁 continua. From the age of 14 to 18 (that was over 20 years ago) I walked these stairs as a student. Today, I return to the Brass Group in a new role, as a piano teacher. I’m happy to begin this new experience and reconnect with the school community, this time from a different perspective. My thanks to the school’s management for their trust, and to everyone who brings this place to life through music every day. . . . . . . . . . . #BrassGroup #ScuolaDiMusica #Pianoforte #PianoTeacher #JazzPiano #LezioniDiPianoforte #MusicEducation #JazzEducation #Palermo #PalermoMusic by @akimusicinsta

(English below) Oggi è mancato il grandissimo Ralph Towner. Grazie Ralph. — Today the great Ralph Towner passed away. He was one of the two or three most influential figures in my musical formation. But my connection with him goes further back: I was 8, in a house in the Sicilian countryside. Everyone was excited about “the great musician” arriving, and I, not knowing who he was, was playing with a spinning top that launched little wooden balls. He showed up, greeted the adults, then came to play with me and stayed for about an hour 😅. More than ten years later, thanks to Salvatore Bonafede, I discovered his music and spent almost two years studying it, eventually making it the subject of my conservatory thesis. At the height of that period, again thanks to Salvatore, I spent a day with Ralph: we talked about everything (including the spinning top) except music. Without his music so full of history and beauty, quite simply, I wouldn’t be who I am. Thank you Ralph. by @akimusicinsta
Ciao a tutti! . . . . . . . .#lezionidipianoforte #pianofortejazz #pianistaPalermo #musicaPalermo #scuoladimusica #pianofortemoderno #armoniajazz #studiodimusica #conservatoriojazz #arrangiamento #cantantipalermo #pianofortepalermo #musicistiitaliani #palermolife #palermocity by @akimusicinsta
Composition is perhaps one of the hardest things to define among the ways of making music, and one of the most diverse in its approach, process, and ultimate purpose. As for the approach, it can be done with pen and paper, with a guitar or a piano, or through an electronic setup and many other ways. Each tool opens a different path into musical thought, a different way of turning intuition into sound. In the process, it can happen casually or immersively: you might write down a few notes a day while, quite literally, sitting on the toilet, or spend hours and sleepless nights searching for ideas, experimenting, and letting them evolve. As for the ultimate purpose, one can compose for a project or an exam, or simply as daily practice, as a personal need, or for the pleasure of getting better at it or staying in dialogue with oneself. I often wonder about the deeper meaning of this activity and where I stand within this vast spectrum of modes and intentions. But one thing is certain: composition, not so much as an art but as a personal practice, is a way like no other to let the soul breathe (with all its light and shadows) and pour drops of it into the sea of the world, hoping that someone, even just one person, might catch them and make them their own. Every day is a good day to compose something. And maybe, to do so, you don’t even need to be a musician. #composizione #composition #musiccreation #creatività #creativity #musicpractice #pianistlife #musicianlife #scriveremusica #musicthoughts #musicstudio #soulmusic #musicislife #musiclover #artistlife #jazzpiano #inspiration #espressione #everydayisagooddaytocompose #musica #luciombre by @akimusicinsta
--- Today marks the end (inside a cave carved into the rock on the island of Favignana) of a crucial phase of teamwork on the documentary film “Va’ Sentiero.” Editing and original music walking hand in hand, as it should always be! Intense days of work, rewarded by the joy of telling the story of Italy through the eyes of those who wish to grow and change with "her", bringing us all back to the still-beating (if sometimes bruised) heart of our land, our nature, and our most ancient culture. #VaSentiero #Documentario #MusicaOriginale #ColonnaSonora #Montaggio #Compositore #CinemaItaliano #FilmItaliano #PaesaggiItaliani #Natura #Territorio #Cultura #Favignana #LavoroDiSquadra #DietroLeQuinte #Sentieri #Montagne #BellezzaItaliana #Esplorare #Viaggio #Radici by @akimusicinsta
Warning!!! Non-instagramable (but interesting) long caption ahead for context: At the beginning of the 20th century, south-italian Florio family massively invested in Sicily, bringing innovation to a land still deeply tied to its ancient traditions.
On Favignana, a small island off the western coast of Sicily, they found a community of "tonnaroti" (tuna fishermen ) who practiced a centuries-old fishing method of Arab origin, based on harmony with the sea and its cycles. Right beside the small harbor was then built the Florio Fishery, the most important hub of this kind in the Mediterranean, where the tuna caught during the "mattanza" (a climactic and solemn fishing ritual) was brought in by the boats, then processed and preserved.
It was here that the Florios introduced for the very first time in history a revolutionary idea: canned tuna! Turning the small island of Favignana into an international center. During the mattanza, on their large wooden boats, the tonnaroti sang "Aja Mola", an ancient call and response work song, much like the Afro-American work songs. The “Rais”, leader of the tonnaroti, would sing the first half of the chant establishing the speed of the gestures, and the fishermen would respond lifting up the extremely heavy nets, full of live tuna, in the same rhythm of their chanting.
It was part of Sicily’s vast oral tradition, music born from labor, community, and survival, most of which has been lost or remains only in the archives of ethnomusicologists.
A sound that could have become our "blues", but instead faded into silence. Today, inside the very same Florio Fishery, a place of extraordinary beauty and historical value, I play "Aja Mola" on the piano.
A song that returns to a place which still holds the sound of the sea and the memory of the labor of hundreds who once lived it, bless their souls. #AJAMola #Favignana #StabilimentoFlorio #Tonnaroti #Sicilia #Sicily #CantoPopolare #FolkMusic #WorkSongs #musicamediterranea #mediterraneanmusic #tradizioneorale #oraltradition #culturasiciliana #sicilianculture #pianosolo #jazzpiano #MusicaItaliana #sicilianmusic #mediterraneo #heritage #storiaesuono #historyandmusic by @akimusicinsta

----------- A throwback to 2016, one of the most meaningful experiences in my work (or perhaps I should say “career”?) as a film composer: the soundtrack of Het Nachtelijk Halfrond, a documentary film by director Paul De Ruijter. The choral composition, suspended between tension and hope, seeks to evoke the theme of dawn after the night, the wait for the first ray of sunlight in the long winter darkness of Scandinavia. A journey from shadow to light, commanded by the laws of nature and conducted with dignity and dedication by the people who live and work in those lands. . . . . . . . . . #musica #music #colonnasonora #soundtrack #filmcomposer #compositore #choralmusic #musicacorale #musicaclassicacontemporanea #contemporaryclassical #scandinavia #documentaryfilm #film #cinema #documentario #messiaen #moderncomposition #registrazionimusicali #studiorecording #musicaoriginale #originalmusic #soundscapes #albadopolanotte #sunrisedarkness #throwback by @akimusicinsta
