I can’t believe I’m writing this, but here we are:I’m “in remission”. There is “no evidence of disease”. My pathology, CT and blood work confirm that the last of my cancer was removed in my latest surgery.My medical team is happy with my recovery, and don’t foresee any more treatment going forward. That said: due to the nature of my cancer and how it spread, I remain at high risk of recurrence, so for the first few years I’ll be closely monitored.I’ve been given the go ahead to go back to work, travel, and even have a wine/beer! I’m so grateful, but also proud. Proud of my top-tier medical team (shoutouts to surgeons, oncologists, residents, nurses, technicians and admin), proud of my family and friends for getting me through this and taking such good care of me, and honestly I’m really proud of myself. I proved to myself that I can handle much more than I ever thought, that I can ask for and accept the help I need, and that I can establish the boundaries I need to protect myself and my health.After finally coming to terms with death, I now have to come to terms with life and this miraculous second chance. It’s proving harder than you’d think, but bear with me as I figure out what this next phase looks like. I’m so glad I get to continue sharing this life with you. 🩵 Akiva by @akivars
