When I was young, I used to think that Love was an emotion, a feeling. That to love, is to accept that there’s a really high and imminent possibility that a time will come in which it won’t be reciprocated. So why then, do we choose to give so freely something that causes such deep and irreparable suffering? Simply put, it’s impossible to live without. I see Love everywhere. In my siblings group chat, full of nonsensical jokes. A stranger refusing to withhold a compliment from another. When Christ’s love pours out of others and into the world. To my friends’ laughter that fills every inch of the space we occupy. From the way you remember the small things about others, not because you feel obligated, but because you choose to. Love is not an emotion. When an emotion is working properly, it arises when needed and moves, shifting with its environment; once the circumstance has been settled, the emotion recedes rather willingly. When Love is working properly, it does not shift or move, increase or decrease in response to its environment. Real love, Christ’s love, is a silent promise that repeats itself continuously until the end of time. A promise I made and intend to keep. It’s been 14 years since we started playing volleyball at Madfrog together. I remember watching you with admiration, knowing that there was something for you in the sport. Something so tangibly visible, everyone could feel it watching you play, train, and compete. You have given so much to volleyball and everyone you have met through it, and I am so painfully proud of you and your growth. From dealing with wrongful assumptions to figuring out the woman you are on and off the court, you’ve been a pillar of grace the entire time. Through all the struggle and pain, I’m so happy volleyball is pouring into you after the decade of you pouring into it. This is only the beginning.I love you Ifenna and will forever be proud of you. by @akunnacos
