Audio today is ubiquitous—it's in our pockets, cars, restaurants, elevators, bathrooms...

We feel it’s time to make it more refined. More tactile. More human.

(volume)³ LUMEN is a passive ‘preamplifier’— a volume control unit designed to deliver superior sound quality by sidestepping the noise, power supply dependency, and distortion inherent in active electronics.

Crafted, assembled, and finished by hand. Built around time-tested electromagnetic circuitry.

Every detail is executed with care and precision. Even those which won’t be picked upon or noticed. For our own satisfaction and for the search for beauty. by @akustikaeterna

The analog volume setting indicator draws inspiration from both vintage and contemporary creations in the world of Haute Horlogerie.

True to tradition, it is entirely analog, crafted with precisely machined mechanical and optical components.

The internal mechanics are on full display through a smoked glass window in the top cover, which also functions as a lightwell, charging the large, applied luminescent numerals that indicate the volume setting.

Their unmistakable soft glow is enjoyable even from the listening position, but it becomes even more striking up close through the lens in the front panel. The background for the numerals has been hand-painted with a special compound that absorbs over 99% of visible light, enhancing the dramatic effect when the listening room darkens.

Another luminescent detail is the hand-finished needle that glides over the bezel surrounding the volume knob. The bezel itself is adorned with a radial, feather-like pattern, meticulously applied to the metal. by @akustikaeterna

One last detail for today before we continue the story over the coming weeks.

From the outside, the Current Lens is intentionally understated. Inside, however, each one contains more than seventy individual mechanical and electromagnetic elements working together.

They are arranged not only for their electrical properties, but also for the way they influence physical stability and mechanical resonance.

Many of the most rewarding discoveries came from changing surprisingly small details. A different spacing between two elements, another dielectric, a slight change in geometry. Individually they often seemed insignificant. Together they gradually shaped the character of the Current Lens.

Perhaps that’s what makes this hobby so fascinating. Sometimes the smallest details are the ones that quietly leave the deepest impression. by @akustikaeterna

Picking up where we left off, here’s another small piece of the puzzle.

Most audio systems receive power through the familiar three conductor connection between the wall outlet and the component.

The Current Lens takes a different approach. Inside, those three conductors become a carefully arranged AC transmission line made up of multiple conductive paths. Each path uses a different combination of conductive materials, selected because each influences the movement of current in its own way.

As these paths run alongside one another, their electromagnetic fields naturally begin to interact. Much of the Current Lens is built around understanding and guiding those interactions, allowing them to contribute to a more coherent flow of energy before it reaches the component. by @akustikaeterna

Continuing our little series on the Current Lens, we’d like to share a few more of the ideas that shaped it.

One of the more interesting discoveries during the development of the Current Lens was realizing how much could be achieved without relying on the traditional toolbox of power conditioning.

There are no capacitors, inductors, or corrective filter networks inside. Rather than treating the symptoms after they appear, the exploration gradually shifted toward understanding how the current itself behaves as it travels through the transmission line.

That simple change in perspective opened the door to many years of experiments with conductive materials, geometry, and electromagnetic interaction. The Current Lens is the result of that journey, more than of any single invention. by @akustikaeterna

Because the Current Lens interacts with the AC current ahead of the rectification stages inside a component’s power supply, the exact result varies from system to system.

Some listeners notice stronger spatial presentation, others greater tonal density or a more relaxed and natural sense of timing.

What has remained surprisingly consistent, however, is the feeling that music becomes easier
to follow and emotionally more convincing over longer listening sessions. by @akustikaeterna

@akustikaeterna Since its introduction, it has been used with power amplifiers, preamplifiers, DACs, streamers, external clocks, subwoofers, and many other digital and analog components. Each system responds a little differently, but one observation has appeared again and again in conversations with listeners: music feels more coherent, more effortless, and easier to become immersed in.

It simply connects in series with any audio component, becoming an extension of its power cable. The power cable from the wall outlet plugs into the Current Lens, and the Lens then connects to the component itself. Using the Current Lens is quite straightforward.

It simply connects in series with any audio component, becoming an extension of its power cable. The power cable from the wall outlet plugs into the Current Lens, and the Lens then connects to the component itself.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue sharing the ideas, engineering, craftsmanship, and listening experiences that gradually shaped the Current Lens from an internal amplifier technology into a standalone instrument. by @akustikaeterna

One of the questions we’ve been asked most often is:

„So... is it a power cable?“

Not exactly.

The Current Lens certainly has a cable, but it is perhaps better understood as a small external extension of a component’s power supply.

The ideas behind it first appeared inside Akustika Eterna amplifier designs. Over time, the question became whether those same principles could exist outside the component itself, directly in the AC line, allowing them to work with virtually any audio system regardless of brand.

That simple question eventually became the Current Lens. by @akustikaeterna

Some projects have a way of finding their place quietly.

The Current Lens is one of them.

Although its public introduction is long overdue, it has already found homes in music systems across different parts of the world since its first standalone appearance in 2025. Over that time, it has been welcomed by listeners with wonderfully different musical tastes, from early music and jazz to electronic, rock, and large scale orchestral works.

Watching these small objects become part of so many listening rooms has been both humbling and encouraging.

Today we’d simply like to begin sharing their story. by @akustikaeterna

________________________
Music is perhaps the most universal of all creative expressions. There was a time when this industry was admired for the delicate balance it held between artistry and engineering. Over the years, however, it has gradually moved toward scale, standardization, and industrial production.

With that shift came a different kind of attention — one focused less on the creative process and more on recognition, familiarity, and status. Some people approach music equipment not through curiosity or understanding, but through logos and reassurance. Through names they already know.

Growth, of course, brings opportunity. But when deeper quality is no longer examined, almost anything can be presented as exceptional. This isn’t unique to audio; it happens wherever surfaces replace substance, and questions of why are no longer asked.

Æ is shaped for those who truly listen — for people who value craftsmanship, intention, and the quiet relationship between design and sound. Those who understand that the two are inseparable. That perspective is what drew us here, and it’s what we remain committed to preserving. by @akustikaeterna
