this month was so hard that you wouldn’t even believe me if I listed out all the many ridiculous things that happened, because I can barely believe it all myself. but through it all there were lovely moments I am very grateful for, and it was very very nice to be À la Maeve again taken in Kilworth, Cork, Ireland by @ala.maeve

warning: scenes of a glacial nature

I took these photos on and in the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, which is a tongue of the Vatnajökull ice cap, which is so vast it covers 8% of Iceland. This glacier is probably most famous as the tongue that feeds Jökulsárlón Lake, which was formed as a result of the glacier calving and melting, leaving behind a lake marked by floating icebergs which culminate in so-called Diamond Beach. I had done a glacier hike on the Falljökull glacier on my last trip. It was such an unreal experience that I knew I wanted to do it again this time around, but I wanted to step it up so I signed up for the longest one I could find while I was there.

There’s something so satisfying about the first crunch of the crampons on the ice whilst soaking in the textures, colours and sheer depth of the ice. The black comes from volcanic ash trapped within the ice. The white ice is caused by cracks and air pockets near the surface. The delicious blue ice is layers upon layers of clear deeply compressed ice that has forced those cracks and air pockets out, so the sunlight can penetrate deeper into the ice and create the captivating blue hues you see in these photos.

Being within the primary ice cave we visited was such a surreal experience and when I close my eyes I can see the rippling and shadowy deep blue walls of ice, and I can honestly feel my mouth watering. There were two small groups of us within the cave, and after my initial exploration I scattered off to one quiet side and parked myself up on a pile of rubble. I let my eyes follow the flows of ice and rest on where they merged. There were a few holes in the ceiling of the ice cave caused by meltwater, and one of them happened to frame a mountain peak. I sat there in a state of complete peace thinking about how grateful I was to be me in that moment, and felt very happy to be alive. taken in Breiðamerkurjökull by @ala.maeve

honey, I’m home... some scenes from a twelve hundred km trip along the south coast of Iceland, where I have once again found myself feeling full alignment and scattering even more pieces of my heart and soul amongst the waterfalls, glaciers, canyons, mountains, black sand beaches and under the aurora borealis. feeling fairly blessed for all the pure, powerful and raw beauty my senses drank in last week. taken in Iceland by @ala.maeve

it’s just crazy man. he’s one of the very few people I wholeheartedly respect and admire on this earth cos his mind is on a whole different level. his albums are universes filled with layers of meaning, authenticity, morals, intention, honesty, accountability and pure rich creativity. everything I value. he’s real. yall know I have really bad insomnia the last few years, cos I’m in my head too much searching for meaning. so all I do is listen to his work all day and all night when I can’t sleep, cos his frequency is one of the only things that makes sense to me when nothing else seems to. alignment. there are no words for how indebted i feel to him for what he has given the world, and especially after Stockholm. it’s something i never could have expected but will cherish forever. I feel truly blessed

him releasing gnx during the hardest time of my life last year was the only thing that got me through it because I felt so defeated by life and people and the way the world is, I wanted to give it all up. and I still feel that way a lot, but that feeling goes away when I listen to him. realignment. I remember who I am and what I can do with the gifts I have been given in this incarnation. if you received À la Maeve for Christmas, you can thank Kendrick for it cos I genuinely couldn’t have done it without him soundtracking those very long days and very long nights, keeping the fire burning, getting to submerse myself in yet another one of those universes he’s given us to explore

while I may have approximately zero money left after this, I have never felt richer getting to witness his music live, and importantly, in the company of beautiful people I met along the way. I spent yesterday evening in copenhagen staring at the water because it felt like a reflection of how I feel. shimmering peace. what a cosmically wonderful experience it is to share with other people who have made the same journey for something that means so much to them. grateful beyond measure for every single aspect. it’s been a hard year but it’s stuff like this that reminds you there’s so much more than all the bullshit that’s spread to keep us down. ok oversharing rambling done but wow.
