I remember being a young girl and hearing people tell my mother that I was too bad, too grown, too much even going as far as to say I would end up in juvenile, like other children in my family. My mother never believed those words. Instead, she rebuked every negative seed that tried to take root in my life. As I grew older, I learned to do the same whenever the enemy used people to speak words of death over who I was becoming. Rather than believing those voices, I chose to believe in God’s vision for my life.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Fifteen years later, here I am a first-generation college student who, by the grace of God, has exceeded every goal I walked into this university with. More than becoming who I once hoped to be, I have become the woman God has called me to be.

When I first walked into North Carolina A&T’s School of Business, I was a young girl filled with passion and ambition. Seeing African American excellence for the first time through alumni, professors, and peers pushed me to fully pursue my own career goals. This university taught me to reach for every star, follow every dream, and equipped me with the skills, discipline, and confidence to do just that.

Signing off,
Alaina Suggs
B.S. Supply Chain Management
