Meet Alan Lau (@alan999), collector extraordinaire and a new source of my inspiration. Sometimes working in the art industry, you forget what the work is about. You forget that we are in this for the art. The passion behind the art. But meeting Alan and witnessing his encyclopedic knowledge of every single piece he has collected is a reminder to keep on learning. To stay hungry and curious. Like another collector we featured recently (scroll back to find), there is a certain delight that comes through in the way Alan speaks about art and collecting: “It’s kind of fun”.

One of our two December cover stars, Alan Lau @alan999 is @animocabrands’ new chief business officer as well as vice-chair at @mplusmuseum.

With one foot in tech and the other in art, he intends to glue the two worlds together, with the belief that art is for all. He speaks to Tatler about his adventures in the metaverse, his experiences acquiring works for major museums, and his personal ‘cave of wonder’ which includes some of the contemporary art world’s most sought-after pieces.

How often do you get to go Tan Hua bloom party? According to Buddhist scriptures it would be once every 3000 years. Feeling blessed ☸️🌸🥀

Grew up knowing the Chinese term 曇花一現which literally translates to a fleeting short bloom, and now finally got to see these flowers in real!

In Buddhism, Tan Hua represent extreme rarity, spiritual awakening and a transient nature of existence.

In many Asian cultures witnessing the bloom is considered auspicious, bringing good luck, wealth and prosperity to the household.

A rare chance to see the international cast this weekend in this first major solo for Imhof in Asia, and the @hongkongballet adaption performance through to November!
