It was a huge honour to collaborate with David and James Reyne on this piece for this year’s Archibald Prize. I wanted to focus not only on them as individuals, but on their relationship as brothers — the connection and how it has deepened over the years.

Their contribution to Australian music, film and culture — especially through Australian Crawl — has long resonated with me, as someone with an long held source-of-inspiration and intrigue of the creative spirit of australiana from the 1970s onwards, this work holds a deep personal milestone and significance.

Ahhhh thanks everyone so much for all the support on my Archibald entry I really really don’t have the capacity to put into words how grateful I am for everyone who said something kind. Even if small it really made an impact on me and I appreciate u so much. It really was an epic experience as alike last year. And seeing everyone else’s artwork is so inspiring. I always come back from Sydney eager to create more. Anyways heres a short article about the VIBE of the entry day. I like how I’m running on 2 hrs sleep here and there’s a full hazmat suited guy behind me. Eternal shoutouts to Shio and Fontella of course❤️Just come back from a quarter life crisis in my second motherland Japan and in the final stages of putting my new art studio together so hold on — I haven’t disappeared! im starting a painting series soon which is something I haven’t ever done ahh goofy AHH 🤪 taken in Sydney, Australia by @alanalacyart

Archibald 2024 ALERT!! I’ve been in hiding for quite some time. Omg I’m kinda awful at spilling my guts about my projects but I’ll give it a shot. I’m also 5 hours sleep down so I probs sound a lil whack.Eep. I always love projects where I’m not only able to create a finished artwork but also create true connections and friendships from. As a hardcore MelbourneCore born and bred kid my dad has subscribed to PBS since I was a kidlet. I didn’t really give to begin with but I praise the big man for it because he reared my half decent music taste. I’d admired Shio from afar for a long time; I’d be at work doing mundane carpentry or painting walls when her show eternal rhythm at 11am every Thursday could come on and it would just… be warm. So nice. I quickly became a fan of the session. a curator of spiritual jazz upon dj upon amazing friend and mum. when I got the opportunity to meet her I jumped to it. so excited. i would swing by her shop every Friday after class and we would catch up about our lives in Japanese. and I guess that was ages ago now. Shes such an integral figure to me in my creative and personal life. a true friend , second mum. and here’s a product of that :’)!

YUP. HE’S IN!!! My big ole @edoxenbould for the Archibald 2023!!!!
U know how I knew Ed was THE one to paint? He knew I was a George Harrison girl fifteen mins into meeting him. We love u Ed. Ed is ALSO very important because; he is big chunky monkey part of my life growing up; he plays David in Pubery Blues(amongst MANY another things; Ed is a GUN.I just have an extreme emotional attachment to this project in particular) which was the blueprint of my teenagehood. Ed is an incredible actor n force of nature. Socks r rocked off. Yo me and my homies grew UP on that stuff. It was/IS incredible. A piece of Australian media that is such an accurate representation of Australia in the 1970’s and the fundamental flaws in its society combined with the challenges of growing up (especially as a girl) during this time. You guys should know this cmon. Channel ten on like a Thursday night in year seven. Netflix 2023 right now GO.
Now my chances of getting finalist are about as fat as winning the green card lottery but at least we gave it a nudge :’) taken in Art Gallery of New South Wales by @alanalacyart
