Tomorrow join us online for a conversation exploring behind-the-scenes of the digital production of "Mountain Spirits: Rice and Indigeneity in the Northern Luzon Highlands, Philippines," an exhibition that immerses audiences in the sacred landscapes and living traditions of the Ifugao rice terraces.

Through images, clips, and personal reflections, exhibition co-curator Amy Landau and director of video experience Paul Connor will discuss how digital media can translate embodied, place-based knowledge into an exhibition experience. From early ideation to working in the mountainous terrain of the Philippines, they will reflect on their approach to documenting a living cultural landscape grounded in ritual, labor, and environmental stewardship.

The Fowler Museum presents "Mountain Spirits: Rice and Indigeneity in the Northern Luzon Highlands, Philippines," a major immersive exhibition that invites visitors into a living cultural landscape where rice cultivation sustains life, memory, and spiritual practices.

Opening April 12, the show explores how the Ifugao of northern Luzon have for centuries shaped their mountainous habitat through agriculture, ritual, and ancestral knowledge. Through carved wooden figures, ritual objects, baskets, textiles, tools, and videos, "Mountain Spirits" presents rice not only as food, but as a sacred substance central to Ifugao cosmology, social life, history, and identity.

Some days just hit different.
Spent the afternoon with UCLA undergraduate nursing students led by Professor @benissa.e.salem in Exploring Social and Health Justice Through the Arts. I always look forward to these visits—thoughtful, compassionate, engaged. If this is our future, we’re in good hands.
Loved the conversations around work by @weshoyot @leahmatafragua @geraldclarkeart and more! #firekinship curators Daisy Ocampo Diaz and Lina Tejeda @fowler
