Created by Troy Primeaux, this is a variant derived from BBM. It’s a cross of Naga Morich × 7 Pot Trinidad Douglah.

My previous post shows one of the two BYM plants, will see what colour I will get here 😅 this one looks more like it though. Hopefully we still get some better weather, so the pods can mature. Otherwise I might have to dig the whole plant and replant into the pot and take indoors. The night temperatures are quite low but all of the peppers are still doing very well, from the weekend it should get a little warmer so 🤞

Created by Troy Primeaux, this is a variant derived from BBM. It’s a cross of Naga Morich × 7 Pot Trinidad Douglah, but somehow I ended up with this beautiful orange phenotype. 🧡

The reason? No idea! Possibly the genetics aren’t fully stable, or more likely, the seeds I obtained weren’t isolated as claimed. The colour could also have been affected by the high temperatures we had this summer (up to 40,3C at mine). I won’t speculate — I love the pods nevertheless! 😁

I’m not sure what I’m going to make from them yet, so… any ideas? 🌶️

I do have a plan to try a small sliver of one of the pods (just a small 🫣), but I might chicken out. When I tried the Chocolate Primotalii, I genuinely thought I had gone to hell 🤣🔥

Today's harvest, plus some extra tomatoes and peppers I picked a couple of days ago. 🌱🍅🌶️

Over a kilo each of Purple Queen beans and green beans, a few chillies to add to some canned stuff I made tonight, and since the onions are going to be ready for harvest soon, I took some of the greens to dehydrate and use in my almond cream cheese. 🧅

And of course, some blackberries. A tad too sweet for me, but nevertheless delicious! 🤤 I did eat them all, of course. 😅

Nothing goes to waste around here. 💚
Felt like shopping for free 😅

I spent a few hours last night cleaning all the Swiss chard and beetroot I harvested – there was actually much more than what's in the photo! 😅

I chopped about two-thirds of it into pieces, blanched it, and froze it for later. I also froze some whole raw leaves to see how well they hold up once defrosted.

Not wanting to waste anything, I pickled most of the stems in a simple brine, and for a couple of jars I added a little extra 🔥. I might give them a taste tomorrow! The rest is in the fridge waiting to be used in a spicy stir fry with tofu or tempeh.

I'll be sowing another batch next month, including a pink variety this time. The one I'm growing now is more reddish, but I can't wait to see the bright pink stems. I love the flavour, but those huge rainbow leaves are just as beautiful as they are delicious. 🤩

Beetroots are stored well for the moment so I can roast them within the next few days. Thinking about making gnocchi or pasta from them 😁 and maybe third one green from some of the beetroot leaves 🤔

The Purple Queen bush bean – an heirloom, open-pollinated French bush bean variety. They're also cold tolerant and, so far, have shown fantastic resistance to pests – not even slugs or voles have touched them 🤞

I've already munched on quite a few of the young pods. They have a lovely sweet flavour with a tender crunch, are completely stringless, and from everything I've read and now can confirm - they're incredibly productive! Noticed the purple within the leaves, just as in chilies? Love that!!!

This is the very first harvest, and there are already hundreds of flowers and tiny developing bean pods to come 🤩

Their beautiful deep purple colour comes from anthocyanins, making the young pods perfect for fresh salads. Unfortunately, they lose their purple colour and turn green when cooked... but luckily they're absolutely delicious eaten raw. 🤤💜

The red meat radish – or you might know it as the watermelon radish or beauty heart – is a winter heirloom variety originating from China. It has a pale green and white skin hiding a vibrant magenta-pink centre.

They're wonderfully crisp and sweet, with a slightly nutty flavour, while the outer layer still has that classic peppery radish bite.

But... mine are spicy this year. Really spicy. 😅 I took a big bite while working in the garden and nearly spat it out 😲 I definitely wasn't expecting that!

For dinner, I thinly sliced a couple and topped them with almond & lemon basil ricotta. I completely forgot to take a photo, but I'll definitely make it again. The creamy almond topping mellowed the heat beautifully, and it was absolutely delicious.

I might pickle the rest. I wish they'd all grown to a similar size, but I had a leftover mix of radish and beetroot seeds that I simply scattered into a gap between the tomatoes and peppers. Some ended up growing far too close together, so a few stayed quite small.

I also had to pull most of them because there's a little bug that absolutely loves my kale, pak choi and radishes. The battle with the garden never really ends!

The most beautiful flowering bean so far, the Purple Queen bush bean. It's an heirloom, open pollinated variety of bush French bean. They are also cold tolerant and have a great resistance to pets ( well in the UK at least, will see how they do here).

The gorgeous dark purple pods sadly turn green when cooked, but their sweet flavour and tender stringless texture is worth it. It's a highly productive variety.

The very young tender pods can be eaten raw and are delicious! The anthocyanins give the raw pods their distinct deep purple color, they are great for adding to fresh salads when very young for this exact reason.

I am so looking forward to picking some hopefully within the next couple of weeks, even just a few young pods to crunch on raw 🤤

I think swiss chard is worth its own post 🤩 it's such a beautiful and highly nutritious leafy vegetable with, in my opinion, great flavour and texture. Might be slightly earthy tasting to some, but if you love beetroots, you would probably enjoy these also 😊.

And cannot omit their look, the bright colour and gorgeous shape of the leaves. As it is a biennial plant, I will leave a couple of each colour in the ground so I can collect the seeds next year. I am gonna plant some more at mine also for the later harvest, so I might leave some here instead. Will see how it goes 🤩
