Adrienne Wells Chapman is very much alive, but the Social Security Administration mistakenly declared her dead, and the fallout has been devastating. The Atlanta mother has spent two months trying to reestablish her benefits, during which time she lost access to life-saving medications, food assistance and her only bank account. She is also now facing more than $60,000 in medical bills. "It's so much for somebody that is trying to get better, that is trying to recover, to get healthy," she said. Our journalist Alani Letang was there as Keisha Lance Bottoms came out to meet supporters after clinching the Democratic nomination for Georgia governor Tuesday night. Bottoms bested a crowded field, including former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, former Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond and former state Sen. Jason Esteves, to become the first Democrat who could potentially be elected Georgia governor since 1998. She will face the winner of the June 16 GOP runoff between Lt. Gov. An Atlanta city council committee has voted to pause the sale of an abandoned warehouse near the Beltline to Atlanta Mission, a homeless service provider that planned a $200 million project to consolidate its services at the site. The resolution calls for a 90-day pause, with Councilmember Byron Amos saying the community has made clear it does not want the development at that location. Parents and students at Midtown International School in Atlanta are reeling after the private school for gifted students announced it will close at the end of the week. ]The school, which serves kindergarten through 12th grade with roughly 158 students, cited declining enrollment and an increasing demand for financial aid as the reason for the closure."Everybody was crying," said one sixth grader. Rome residents Nancy Anthony and Spencer Wills are among those reacting to the devastating fire that tore through the Floyd County Historic Courthouse on Monday. The 132-year-old building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was fully engulfed in flames earlier in the day.
