POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Over the last week i’ve run dam to dam. Above the fat farm navigation is sketchy. Lots of topped out grass. Hate to say it, but too much. This creates floating mats ripped up by the wake boats running in shallow water (12’ or less). You can run into mats from Dells place on upstream.

There is more grass out there than in the premier time of 2010-2014.

I sit on the Lake Austin Stakeholder group along with a former fishery biologist, both representing the angling community. TPWD has recently completed a vegetation survey (have not seen it yet). But I fully expect the acreage to have increased, which will trigger more carp stocking.

Since the drawdown was cancelled for economic reasons, the grass won’t get knocked back as planned. Drawdowns don’t kill the grass only stunt the growth for a while.

There is a lot a harvesting activity up and down the lake which also creates floating debris. It’s tough to throw surface baits without catching grass only exposed hooks.

I will continue to report back the discussions from the meetings by @alanrbell

The city has cancelled the 2026 drawdown. Feedback that I received from the Anglers was generally in support of the drawdown. That direction was stated in the Stakeholder meetings. Meetings will continue to monitor the vegetation studies by @alanrbell
