About 10 weeks ago I wrapped up my internship at WAVYTV10. The time since then has flown by and for my first ever newsroom internship it truly challenged me and solidified that this is exactly what I want to do. I’m extremely grateful to God for the opportunity and the open door. It was a lot of hard work that didn’t feel hard in the sense of I can’t take it— I loved being pushed to grow and although it took a lot of my time and energy I would do this everyday. I enjoyed spending my summer learning and soaking up every bit of what I could from every professional in the room. There hasn’t been a day yet where I don’t think about my time at WAVY.

I’ve taken forever to share the highlights because of how fast time flies and the countless other opportunities that came after. I’ve finally had the time to sit down and just reflect.

This internship was more than just an internship for me. Being from the 757 and growing up watching WAVY — being in the room with some of the same people I’ve watched was a full circle moment. I’m grateful for every single person who mentored me and looked out for me during my time at WAVY. I love you all ❤️.

Take a look at some of the moments I’m most proud of — I had so many opportunities to grow as a young professional.

LIVE from “Virginia’s Golden Shore.”✨

In 3.5 years, journalism stopped being something I wanted to do and became something I was called to do.

At Norfolk State, I learned the power of journalism through countless connections, opportunities, and moments that challenged me to grow. Nothing was ever handed to me, but God gave me the ambition to pursue every opportunity and the courage to walk through the doors He opened.

From writing and reporting to interviewing, producing, shooting, and everything in between, my heart has always belonged to journalism and mass media. During my first year, I was often told I was “doing too much.”Looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t listen.

To every professor, mentor, newsroom, organization, friend, and family member who poured into me, thank you. Your investment, guidance, and belief shaped the reporter, leader, and storyteller I am becoming.

To my mom and dad, thank you for always supporting my decision to pursue journalism. I love you both.

This chapter ends with a degree in hand, but my mission remains the same: to “watch the world change LIVE through journalism”, be a voice for the voiceless, and challenge systems through accountability and truth.

The little girl who wrote the longest essays in first grade, filled countless journals, volunteered to present in class, spoke up for others, and encouraged those around her through words would be proud of the journalist standing here today.

I could list accomplishments, awards, and milestones, but I’d rather let the work speak for itself.

And thankfully, this is just the beginning.

All glory goes to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

James 1:17

TIME has a way of revealing why God placed you somewhere before you ever understand it. 💚💛

When I decided to attend Norfolk State, I was met with backlash and plenty of “are you sure?” conversations. I was told I had “better” options and that this place really wasn’t all that.

My decision came after attending Admitted Students Day in 2022 and feeling the warmth, energy, and pride that students, alumni, and faculty carried so naturally. Before I ever stepped foot on campus as a student, I felt at home.

Over the next three and a half years, I grew to love Norfolk State and became determined to challenge the narrative surrounding it. I wanted people to see what I saw and understand that the students from this institution are some of the most talented, resilient, and overlooked gems in the country.

Serving as Miss 1935 became my final opportunity to continue that mission.

From the pageant process and HBCU Kings & Queens Conference to game days, airport conversations, and every national interaction in between, I grew as a leader while my pride for this university continued to deepen. Sharing my HBCU with people who had never experienced one before taught me the power of visibility.

To the Royal Court, thank you for allowing me to serve alongside you. To our advisors, thank you for trusting me. To my Mister 1935 Ralph, thank you for your partnership, leadership, and unwavering love for Norfolk State.

For anyone reading this, remember that God has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. Your potential is already within you. The only thing left to do is unlock it.

As this chapter closes, my mantle of Miss 1935 will forever remain with me as I continue to show the world the gems Norfolk State produces.

A title may be held for a season, but purpose outlives the crown.

Miss 1935, out in 3.5. 💚💛

Summer breezed by so fast, I never even got the chance to post in real time.

Still riding the island wave from a summer spent representing my alma mater in so many different ways.

Seeing the continued success of Rise of the Legion has been such a blessing to witness, and being part of the team that helped tell this story never gets old.

From documenting the journey to watching the film reach new audiences, I’m grateful for every opportunity to help tell the stories that matter to me.

As we approach NYTHC, this film is another reminder of the love and pride for my alma mater. BEHOLD.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE FILM FESTIVAL 2026.
.
.
It was great being able to be in Las Vegas for this film festival in late July! I had the privilege of being able to speak on a panel and talk about The Spartan “Legion” and the legacy of Norfolk State. I love the impact that this Emmy award winning film has made and it has been a pleasure to work on it and promote it!

Thank you to the Woodard family and FavorMultimedia & Korrosive Films for this opportunity!

12.06.2025✨

It’s been six months since I graduated a semester early, and honestly, everything happened in such a blur.

The day felt cinematic, and it’s taken time to fully process all that happened, all that I accomplished, and everything I achieved during my time at Norfolk State. Sometimes when you’re living in the moment, you don’t realize just how far you’ve come or how much you’ve grown until you’re able to look back.

In this case, I graduated a semester early with honors, countless memories, and more accomplishments than I ever imagined when I first stepped onto campus. If I’m being honest, I’ve avoided posting these photos because I never wanted to come across as boastful. But one thing I’m learning in this season of life is that it’s okay to celebrate yourself. It’s okay to pause, reflect, and appreciate how far you’ve come before rushing to the next goal.

If December A’lauren could see herself now, she wouldn’t believe the doors God has opened, the opportunities He’s provided, or the places He’s allowed her to go.

So here’s a look back at my actual graduation day on December 6, 2025. 💚💛

Thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my Family for being there every single step of the way.

What I’ve learned from this process is that God’s timing is always perfect even if it doesn’t look like what others would expect!

At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.

Grateful is an understatement. 💛

Although I graduated a semester early and a little unexpectedly, I still wanted to take time to celebrate this milestone. Last month, I had the opportunity to gather with family and friends before my move to the West Coast, and I am incredibly grateful for everyone who showed up to celebrate not only my achievements, but also the journey ahead.

To my parents and grandma, thank you for your unwavering love, prayers, and support. Thank you for being there through every high and low along the way.

To my godparents, thank you for always answering the phone, offering encouragement, and godly wisdom that has helped me through every season.

To everyone who helped make this celebration possible, from the décor and catering to every detail in between, thank you for helping me pull this together.

And to everyone who came to celebrate, thank you for your love, support, and belief in me. This chapter may be ending, but a new one is just beginning.

Here’s to the next adventure. 💛 by @alaurenofficial

I turned 22 in February and all I can say is that I have immense gratitude for seeing another year. I’ve been through, overcome, and achieved so much in the last year that only God knows. Embracing this new chapter of life has been nothing but a blessing from God. I spent my birthday reflecting and with my parents & brother at peace. 🥂✨ Time is a gift, life is a gift, and I’m just grateful. A toast to celebrate all year round. by @alaurenofficial
