🗣️REAL TALK THO! If we didn’t have power, they wouldn’t be trying this hard to erase our voice. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act is the reason Black, Brown, Latino, and Asian American communities have representation. Them trying to weaken it is them trying to split us up and tear down everything we’ve built. Fewer districts reppin’ us = fewer elected officials makin’ sure we get what we need. At Black Women Rest's Be Well Fest, Alabama Values brought the Liberation Station to life, a space where healing, storytelling, joy, and community came together.Together, we created a place to reflect, connect, and imagine a future where wellness, joy, and collective care are not luxuries, but necessities.Liberation isn't only about what we're fighting against. Today, Black women working full-time, year-round earn about 65 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men. That gap isn't just about paychecks. It's about the ability to build wealth, buy a home, save for retirement, support a family, and create opportunities for future generations.While Alabama has the Clarke Figures Equal Pay Act, which makes it illegal for employers to pay workers differently based on sex or race for substantially similar work, the fight for pay equity continues. Across the country, advocates are pushing for stronger pay transparency and accountability measures because equal pay doesn't happen on its own, it requires policy, advocacy, and action. Economic justice is civic justice.Stay informed. Ask questions. It's about communities coming together through peaceful, collective action to defend our freedoms and strengthen our democracy. At the Be Well Gala, Dr. Pellum reminded us that Black women have always relied on community to move us forward. From Harriet Tubman to Fannie Lou Hamer and generations of Black women freedom fighters, liberation was built through trusted networks, shared knowledge, and people willing to care for one another.That message feels especially urgent today.As neighborhoods are displaced by gentrification, healthcare becomes harder to access, and economic pressures leave many families juggling multiple jobs and caregiving responsibilities, rest becomes harder to find. These aren't just personal struggles, they're the result of systems that shape where we live, how we work, and whether we have the time and space to heal.That's why organizations like @blackwomen.rest matter.
