Alchemy Custom Weaponry’s new Black Army 1911: made FOR 1911 guys, BY 1911 guys.
•
Although my career in the firearms industry is relatively young, this has to be one of the greatest moments for me in that time.

I have always been obsessed with the First World War-era M1911 pistols. To me, they remain the most aesthetically pleasing models and unmolested from John Browning’s initial design. My first collectable gun was a Colt M1918 “Black Army”, which I won when I was 21 at @rockislandauction, when they were back in Illinois. From that point forward, the M1911 pistol has become a center point of my life… culminating in the release of this very gun.

Since then, I have been perusing the perfect 1911. One that remains more-or-less aesthetically faithful to the original gun, but with features that made the gun more “shootable” than the original. Even in doctrine, modern shooters do not use the M1911 pistol as originally intended, with cocked n’ locked carry and two-handed shooting being the major deviations from traditional handling of the pistol. With the Black Army, ACW takes our modern shooting considerations and packages them as the trench-fighting masterpiece from yesteryear.

If that isn’t enough for you, the new Black Army can become your perfect 1911-shaped canvas, with full options being available to customize to your preference.

I could not be more proud of ACW- from top to bottom. This is a 1911 made for 1911 guys- and the website copy reflects that. No AI in the product copy, no generic marketing jargon, just dudes who adore the 1911 and want to share its glory with the world.

Ladies, it’s now the cold season for most of the United States. If your man isn’t carting around an absolute hawg-leg of a pistol, then you still have time to reconsider the relationship before presents have to be bought for Christmas.

And for the fellas… if you don’t have a woman… that’s okay, you can still have a Quantico HiCap Full Rail.

One thing about us at Alchemy, we love ourselves a Wheel Gun Wednesday.

Our “new” Black Army 1911 paired up with a Colt’s M1917 that was cut down into a quasi-Fitz sometime after it was retired from military service.

John Henry Fitzgerald, the creator of the Fitz Revolver concept, was not unfamiliar with the 1911. Traveling to National Match events in the interwar period, “Fitz” could often be found under the blue Colt tent tweaking away on the big Army Automatic. Some of this methods of accurizing 1911s for match work would find their way into 1911-smithing later on in the gun’s history.

The ACW Black Army looks right at home next to that “inspired” Fitz Special.. and that’s just what we were going for.

Is the 9mm “right” in a 1911? Well.. I can assure you, it isn’t wrong! The 1911 and 9mm have been intertwined, historically, since 1949- far before then if you draw a comparison between 9mm and .38 ACP. These heavy, single action pistols are easy to shoot well, fast, and accurately- which is probably why they’re so popular in today’s shooting world.

Who might a 9mm 1911 be good for?
- Someone who enjoys a 1911 but cries every time they have to check out at the store with a case of .45 ACP (it’s so expensive).
- New shooters, although these guns can allow you to become spoiled early on, so it’s wise to become familiar with other types of guns as well (get a double action revolver)!
- Older shooters who have spent a lifetime shooting big-bore handguns and have hands that show it.

This 9mm, dot-sighted Prime Elite Carry was a recent used ACW pick-up of yours favorite 1911 marketing kid, and I will tell you.. not making a mortgage payment to shoot a .45 1911 all day is a nice change of pace!

Double-stack .45 ACP.. it’s the 2011 for men that wipe their ass with sandpaper and eat their Wheaties with gunpowder.

“Pride of Ownership” in the guns you carry: it’s a lost art in today’s world of mass-produced polymer.
•
No matter what it happens to be, carry a gun that makes you say, “damn, this is cool” when you put it on.

For me, my favorite gun to carry is my @alchemy1911 Prime that was hand-engraved by FEGA Master Chris Rossiter. So much so, I actually ended up shooting my last IDPA match with it!

Now it’s all cleaned up, waiting for a little cooler weather before getting back into the normal carry rotation (I typically carry a hard chrome gun in the humid North Carolina summers).

One year ago, Jack Carr’s CRY HAVOC deployed to Southeast Asia- I mean, your nearest bookstore.. With it, readers were introduced to the Armand Swenson’s Bobcat- a custom, combat .45 cashed away in a wine cellar by the CIA in Saigon.

While the gun in the book was based on a real-life Swenson Bobcat that actually did a tour in Vietnam in 1969, we at ACW ,through our RestoMod program, resurrected this concept from the vintage custom gun archives.

Just as Swenson did in his time, our rendition has been slightly modernized for the demands of today’s combat shooter. To this day, the Swenson Bobcat RestoMod remains our most unforgettable gun to-date.

The Black Army from ACW. Someone once asked me, “why do you offer the Black Army in 9mm?” Well, in the words of the bartender from Talladega Nights, “for profilin’ purposes.”

There’s absolutely nothing I like to see more than an Alchemy 1911 getting some damn use! This Case-Hardened Prime was used by a buddy in the 1911 SYN x Pannone 1911/2011 class earlier this year and rocked it.

Especially with our “Heritage Finish” pistols, there seems to be a trend that they are mainly built for display or as investments. No sir, they’re just fighting guns that are a little prettier than the going standard.

Clean CDP stage run with my Griffin & Howe engraved ACW Prime in .45 ACP at my last IDPA match. Which, with the slow pace of this shooting, you can tell I was over-confirming my shots on this stage. That, and, sometimes I get distracted by how freakin’ gorgeous this gun is.

Competition is new to me and I am still learning the gamesmanship of it all.
•
I shot out the gold bead too, so I need to get that replaced. Other than that, I think this engraved ACW has seen more rounds this year than any other gun I have and continues to be my favorite to shoot.
