More soon on the medical progress made thus far. For now, merely wanted to say on this day I was born..

6 Months In—

Last 6 months have been filled with recovery, procedures, medications, appointments, patience, and learning how to navigate healing one day at a time.

I’ve given everything I have to getting better — and I’m still pressing forward.

However I’ve also realized healing cannot only be clinical. At some point, restoration has to include the spirit, peace, balance, movement, nourishment, breath, and environment too.

So now… after 6 months of fighting to recover, it’s time to bring holistic care into the journey as well.

Not giving up.
Not slowing down.
Just healing more completely.

Grateful for everyone who has checked in, prayed, encouraged me, and stood beside me through this process. Truly.

▪︎ A FAMILY AFFAIR ▪︎

NO INDIVIDUAL molding movement into phrases, designing imaginitive dances or crafting inventive choreography into works of art and memorable experiences for a public they will often never know is doing so alone.

EACH of US doing so have been blessed with the bodies, intuition and understanding of people who see what we are after and possess an intuitiveness which aids us in bringing a semblance of sensibility to shape in human form, one that is ble to touch the soul of another and speak the serenity of our spirits all at once.

I WOULD BE NOTHING w/o these individuals here. For a decade now, everything that has come from me has been born through them. The dedicated manner they've cared for and helped construct what I've committed to curating into conceptualizations of live, moving, performance and visual art has given me freedom within and helped me feel more than whole, but have the courage to share with the world.

They aren't just dancers I direct, they are loved ones! Loved Ones I live for and human beings I'm bonded to for life. They are My Kydz! They are the ones coming up behind me. The ones I stand in support of surpassing me and whom I'd give anything to and for. So in this farewell to my forties, I had to take a moment to share with them, just how much they are adored, cherished and loved by Lil Ol' Me♥︎

Theirs Always~

DON'T BLOCH YOUR BLESSINGS💫
Dancers pointe shoe relationships are intimate & unique! Many of us will never know that relationship. Rare souls and special ones like this precious being @lucycole03 allow us to see the magic made when dancers feel alive in the shoe. They can go beyond what we know as life when they're in the right shoe.

Its clear Lucy loves her @blochdanceusa pointe shoes_It shows! This material I wanted to remix began w/the prized opportunity I had working w/the beautiful @a_ballerina_ What Alexandra and I originally made together and presented on the @nycitycenter stage in the @danceagainstcancer concert provided an opening for the genius that is @thatgirltorya to ask for that solo to be part of the exceptional concert experience she was directing & co-producing w/the trailblazing @ayolives for the @thejoycetheater.

Here's where⚡️struck_When asked about this piece being part of their new electrifying concert, tho I share so many cultural and upbringing similarities with Ayodele, particularly our being from The BX, I didnt know her show would be called The Remix. It didnt just amaze that I had intended on remixing that original balletic solo, empahsizing the importance of hip-hop music as the central base of musical composition for a staged dance concert had me at hello. I was psyched and found Torya's invitation to be GENIUS💡

Ayodele and I had been separately investigating the same music compostion ideas for concert dance on stage. A loving bond w/the sound of a beat has us bound to the sound of percussion in a BX-like way. Compared to Tap Shoes, Pointe Shoe percussive sounds aren't focused on. But Ballet-&-Tap are 2 art forms of dance where the shoe is ESSENTIAL/REQUIRED! They make extraordinary percussive sounds and their own soft shoe tone. They're instruments in the same dance orchestra.

As I played w/music for this solo, pairing @beyonce & @champagnepapi w/ @edbuttmusic I watched Lucy bring the music to life thru her use of_THE SHOE! So on the eve of my heading to Beyonce's Final Concert, I say again_

Gillian's🕊Goodbye
Last night we bid farewell to one the greatest ballerinas of our time, American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer, Gillian Murphy. With nearly 4,000 people in attendance, the ballet world, and dance universe as we have known it will now never be the same.

Like the great ballerinas before her who have also departed from the stage in the last decade; i.e. @wendyw @palomaherrera_oficial and @ashleybouder, on this evening of July 18, 2025 the day will be remembered in history as her official Swan🦢Song.

At a time when in this country and throughout the world, the question of what it is to be American is being asked, I point to the example of Ms. Gillian Murphy. It hasn't just been through her work that we have experienced her grace, grit and goodness. It has equally been in every word she carefully expresses. You meet her humanity at hello.

Her kindness isn't only in how she carries herself, its at the heart of her character. A conscious compassion is what she greets every person with. Her manner of consideration and communication exhibit an ease of earnestness. Often without speaking aloud, she has said back to the world time and again, through ea ballet, that what she has committed herself to is giving the best of herself to us...To us!

So I share this post (unlike I've ever done before) b/c since first seeing her perf of @twylatharp_ Bach Partita with @marcelogomesofficial, my experience of this exceptional human being has been one of gratitude that she existed at a time in which I lived. So, like many, I not only say farewell, I know we all wish her more than well. May she have the best in all that is ahead.

While she is indeed deserving of a moment of rest, I await for how next in the future we'll be further blessed by her genius and generosity. Thank you Gillian_brava - Brava - BRAVA🙏🏾❤️‍🔥🫂

Black🖤Butterfly
As an artist, there's been nothing more gratifying than watching and getting to participate in the blossoming birth of a young creative's understanding of their own beauty.

The studio is a sacred space for me. Over the yrs assembling mvmt and developing steps that speak to the soul of why art is essential and human beings are everything has only been possible b/c of loves like this one--- @chrssydenny, who on the eve of his 25th birthday, I am humbled by the courage he's had to conquer his fears, allowing himself to be seen, loved and adored for all that he is and has in himself to become and be_Like a 🦋.

Dancers from my alma mater @wesleyan_u aren't always quite sure as to how they can carve out and have a space for themselves in an field that often feels full. Its been my honor to share my space and to help shepherd their journey in all the ways I'm able🙂‍↕️

Us_We_All_Y'all

I think to be an artist is to be the most observant, questioning, investigative, experimental, and reflective, not just of the time but of the will. Yes, the will in one self, but also beyond oneself at the same time. As a human being, that's aiming to always understand through research, fellowship and time, I'm not drawn to content or ever aiming to put out material that doesn't ask us to pause inside, as much as we're drawn to collectively applauding out loud.

Whether important to the time, to promote a movement or stand up for a cause, it is not what I have done or typically do as an artist. However, we are in some quite interesting times! When you grow up in this country as I have, and since boyhood you've seen and lived throughout the world, growing up African-American, with Latino roots, Muslim, gay, taught by Catholic Schools, supported by Jewish sponsors and educated and trained in some of their elite academic and artistic institutions, one aims to examine who we are as human beings above all else. At least I am..

While it is my belief that art is a battle within and unto itself, to have the courage to even attempt, let alone dare to conceptualize or much less, develop, produce and put out anything that lives in the now, yet goes beyond the moment takes everything...everything! This moment and time that we are in, I dare say it may very well take exactly that_everything from -- Us_We_All_Y'all!

Level Up

Getting the chance to choreographically reMix the beautifully danced solo made for @a_ballerina_ as part of the @danceagainstcancer gala closing @nycitycenter, on the exceptional @lucycole03 as part of an opening for the recent @thejoycetheater production was a testament to the universality of dance!

Each of these extraordinary women, Alexandra Hutchinson and Lucy Cole, is an honor to spend time with in the studio @cba_nyu. They aren't just dancers, ballerinas, white or black females. They are artists, ambassadors, agents of change---Women@Work who fearlessly dove in with me, and I truly adore🙂‍↕️

To watch them work and to work with them is an inexplicable feeling. One, however, that at least in these clips, I can share a peek of and give you a glimmer of a view into the joy felt. Such a feeling I wish for everyone, so enjoy for now. More to come. Hats off, however, to this woman and those ladies❤️‍🔥

LIGHT-of-LUCY✨️

The opportunity to return to working with not just any individual in dance but an emerging artist such as one, Lucy Cole not only lights up one's life but can brighten a room instantaneously.

To spend the last weeks reMix-ing the movement of another solo into what Lucy and I began with and now are embarking on to make into something new and magnificent is an absolute joy.

It has been an adventure I have been long waiting for, and I'm glad to be starting together on it now_Get ready!

Beats_on_Pointe
This final run-thru of the debut solo, PRiSMs for @danceagainstcancer 15th Anniversary Concert @nycitycenter, was a joy to collaborate on for the Gala, with musician Guillermo E. Brown and ballerina Alexandra E. Hutchinson @dancetheatreofharlem 🌹

Preparing this piece in the quiet and safety of my home studio @cba_nyu for the purpose of contributing to a cause that is fighting Cancer is a worthy task we took on with humility and honor 🫶🏾

The push towards raising more money in this battle against the disease, which is taking our loved ones, is not done. So consider if you will, giving to DACNY.org so we may together make a difference in the fight against this deadly illness🕊

Our sincerest appreciation for @erinfogartyb @adelmancharles and @dgadelman and their belief and backing of this piece was a privilege🙂‍↕️
