Sitting among 250 advocates in Jeju for the groundbreaking of Fulton Science Academy Atherton, it really hit me how quickly the conversation around #STEMeducation has gone global.

Being there as a Past-President of the National Consortium of STEM Schools made the moment even more meaningful—especially seeing a leading member school take root in a place like Jeju, which is quickly becoming a hub for educational innovation.

Fulton Science Academy has built an incredible track record—National Blue Ribbon, AP Platinum, National Character School, Cognia School of Distinction—but this moment is about more than past success. It’s about taking that model global.

Grateful to fellow Board member Dr. Kenan Sener for the vision and leadership to make this happen, and to new partners helping lead this work forward.

The last month has made one thing clear: STEM education is global. taken in Jeju Island, Korea by @alderdice

I'm deeply honored to have been named the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Arts in Education by the Arkansas Arts Councill.

While this recognition is personal, it really reflects the work of so many colleagues and students at the Arkansas School For Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts who demonstrate every day that creativity belongs at the center of a great education.

Throughout my time in Arkansas, I’ve tried to make a simple case: arts education is not merely enrichment. It is investment. The arts help build the creative capital that every thriving state and every thriving economy depends on: the ability to imagine, design, collaborate, communicate, and bring new ideas into the world.

I had just two minutes to share that idea during today’s ceremony, and Arkansas TV captured both my remarks and a wonderful short video package about ASMSA created by documentary filmmaker Nathan Willis.

You can watch the ceremony here: https://www.youtube.com/live/hr7nOenrkyk?si=-iPrAZoy7xL07EAC&t=1093

Since the topic deserves more than two minutes, I took time in this week’s episode of "A Slice with ’Dice" to explore the idea of creative capital more fully and why continued investment in arts education matters for Arkansas’s future.

Grateful for the opportunity to keep making the case that creativity is not decoration in our economy — it’s infrastructure. by @alderdice

Being named Arkansas Business’ Executive of the Year in Public Sector/Education is an incredible honor. In a field full of dedicated public servants and educators, the recognition was unexpected and deeply humbling.

This honor belongs to the entire #ASMSA community of learning. For 13 years, their commitment to excellence and a shared vision has made leadership a privilege. The work has always been a collective effort, and this award reflects that spirit.

Having Stephanie, my mom Linda, colleagues, and a group of our Student Ambassadors present made the moment even more meaningful. Those young leaders reminded everyone in the room why this work matters in the first place. Giving students a literal seat at the table is not symbolic—it’s essential. Their voices, their presence, and their potential deserve to be centered in every decision we make.

As this chapter nears its close, moments like this one offer a meaningful reminder: the work has been worth doing, and the people we serve, and serve alongside, are what make it all worthwhile. taken in Statehouse Convention Center by @alderdice
