The earliest UK harvest on record is underway! Many vineyards kicked off picking in late August, and while some are still racing through the rows, others are eager to start and the rest are already pressing and planning for the vintage ahead. A few pictures from harvest day!🍇 We don’t have the best access to the vineyard so we filled buckets with grapes… emptied into crates on the back of our quad bike… took them down to the trailer in our garden… and finally they made it into the collection bins! What a day! Some maintenance work and nutrient sprays still to do this year until we can have a proper rest… until it all starts again in January! #harvest2026 #harvestseason #englishvineyard #sparklingwine #cotswoldlife Two very tired people at the end of the day, with the biggest smiles! Belle getting stuck in! Beautiful plump grapes (that we still don’t know what variety they are!) Obligatory grape tasting as we go along! Filling the bins on the trailer! Some of our fabulous volunteers! Seyval Blanc sunbathing before they get picked! Our one and only Regent vine that made it through after the powdery mildew outbreak! One of the best parts of harvest has been seeing our vineyard community come together. Family, friends, neighbours and locals all joining in, getting stuck in and helping us bring this year’s grapes in 🍇 The round of applause as we sent the grapes off to the winery was a moment to remember! We have a community WhatsApp group where we share vineyard updates, volunteer days and other opportunities to get involved throughout the year. What. A. Day! Yesterday we harvested our grapes, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Beautiful sunshine, plenty of picking, snipping and carrying… but most importantly, lots of chatting, laughing and having a lovely day together. And honestly, that’s exactly what we hoped our harvest days would be like. The grapes are now safely at the winery and were pressed last night, on their way to be coming sparkling wine! Back from holiday and straight back into the vineyard, and it looks like harvest is coming soon! 🍇🍷 Our Seyval Blanc grapes have turned a beautiful golden colour, while the red varieties are looking lovely, plump and ripe. We tested the sugar levels today and they’re right where we want them to be for our sparkling wines, which is very exciting! We’ll now send off samples to test the acid levels, so we can get a better picture of where everything is and start making some decisions about harvest. It all feels like it’s happening very quickly now! A very productive day in the vineyard 🍇☀️ It was a hot one, but everyone got stuck in and we got through so many rows of leaf thinning. It was lovely seeing all those beautiful bunches that had been hiding away finally come into view. A lovely lunch, plenty of wine and great company made it even better. 🍇Veraison is here!🍇 One of the exciting points in the vineyard as the grapes start to soften, the red varieties change colour and the sugar levels begin to rise as they ripen. Our Dornfelder and Pinot Precoce are now nearly through veraison, with the Regent and our other red variety that we’re still trying to identify(!) around halfway. We’re really pleased with how the Dornfelder is looking, it still needs regular TLC but so much better than last year. The Pinot has some lovely-looking bunches from a distance, but sadly the splitting caused by the powdery mildew means it’s unlikely to make it through to harvest. It’s still all to play for with the other varieties, and with another heatwave on the way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on them over the next few weeks! #veraison #pinotprecoce #grapeharvest #englishsparklingwine #englishwine taken in Alderley, Gloucestershire by @alderley_vineyard

School holidays mean we’ve gained a couple of very enthusiastic little helpers! Belle and Florence have been getting stuck into the leaf thinning, but Belle was so keen to explain what she was doing that we handed her the microphone too! Safe to say she takes her vineyard duties very seriously and it was such an enjoyable time with them both ❤️ We hope you enjoy hearing all about leaf thinning through Belle’s eyes!
