Cenobio Navarro. Passed away 8/4/2020. I love you forever Grandpa. I’ve been in Laredo for a little over a month while he battled Covid-19. We lost him on August 4 at 11:30 p.m I was able to say goodbye over Zoom. It still hasn’t really hit me and I don’t know when it will. I’m lucky because I got to know him for almost 27 years. He was a big part of raising me. He took us to McDonalds every Friday after school. We would always have a contest to see who got the longest French fry and he always won cause I never noticed he would just hold two of them together. He loved baseball and took us to the Tecolotes games even though I couldn’t sit still. He grew up in Villa Juarez, Coahuila where they had dirt roads, the population was only a few hundred people, and pretty much the whole town shared a car. He left home when he was only 14 or 15. He moved to Chicago and taught himself English by reading the newspaper every day. I’m going to miss eating at Danny’s restaurant with him and watching Caso Cerrado at his house. I’m so grateful to him because he never told me how I should be. He always just accepted me how I was and was so proud of anything I did. That kind of unconditional love is really rare and he had it for all of his grandkids. He told everyone who would listen that I loved in Los Angeles. I tried every sport under the sun and he showed up to every game even though I was usually the worst player. He went to every play and choir concert even though he was hard of hearing towards the end of his life. I’m trying to stay positive. He always told us that he lived a good life. It’s hard not to think of the what if’s. It happened so fast and he was as healthy as an 86 year old man could be otherwise. I really thought he would recover. I’m working on letting go of things out of my control but it’s one of the things I struggle with the most. Please wear a mask and social distance. I love you forever Grandpa and I promise to make you proud. by @ale.avenue
