After over 10 years of training and competing, today marks the end of my collegiate career in track and cross country. It breaks my heart to have things come to a close earlier than expected, but after 2 years of what sometimes felt like a downward spiral, it was time to call it.

Since the day I started, I gave this sport everything I had. For many years, the hard work paid off and it brought me way higher than I could imagine. But near the end, doing everything right wasn’t enough. Even when I put in more work, I raced slower. It took a massive toll not only on me as an athlete but also as a person. For a long time I let the repeated feeling of disappointment consume me, but I was too busy feeling sorry for myself to realize that I already had everything I could ever ask for.

I fought for years to earn a walk-on position at CU then went on to make an impact on one of the best teams in the nation. Even when things started to look grim I never gave up on my teammates or myself. The sport taught me discipline and humility, it got me through school, and most importantly, it introduced me to some of the best friends in the whole world. I will always be grateful for the teammates, coaches, friends and family that stuck by me every step of the way.

This may be the end of my collegiate career, but it is far from the end of my running career. I still have some unfinished business to take care of after some much needed rest. taken in Boulder, Colorado by @alechornecker
