It has been almost a month since my 5th WС. Finally I’ve made this post. I wanted to say some, сuz it needs to be said and I want to let it out.

My first WC was in 2010; back then, because of my love for Messi and Barcelona, I rooted for both Spain and Argentina. Yet, strangely enough, I found myself following Spain’s journey most closely throughout the tournament. It ended in triumph for me. I love the team, so you can’t say I am biased, they are my 2nd favorite team.

For a Barcelona fan of 18 years, Spain vs Argentina final was the ultimate bingo. I had imagined this incredible outcome in one of my pre-tournament predictions, thinking I’d be a winner regardless of the result, however, my love for Leo and my deeper bond with Argentina ultimately tipped the scales.

For someone who continues to support the Argentine national team even after Messi’s departure, that final defeat was painful for a simple reason. Yes, Leo didn’t win a second consecutive trophy. But for me personally, the pain lay in the fact that the group of players Lionel Scaloni had assembled over the previous seven years lost just one knockout match and that match happened to be against Spain.

Argentina hadn’t lost a knockout game since 2019, and unfortunately, their first defeat in a long time was this final where they could solidify themselves as the best national team in history.

This is the team that, in the 2022 final, outclassed France for 80 minutes, fighting tooth and nail for every square cm of the pitch. This is a family, this is the absolute embodiment of football culture. These guys won back-to-back Copas América, reached 2 WC finals, and won one. Absolute History.

The soil there is truly fertile. As we know, the two greatest players of all time are Argentine. But it is not enough simply to play good football. A combination of factors must align to achieve what the current national team has accomplished in the future.
