7th at the finish. 1st in my age category. Next stop: doping control. 🩸

Just after crossing the finish line at the Lucerne Marathon, I was approached by Swiss Sport Integrity officers and notified that I’d been selected for testing.

I hadn’t even finished on the overall podium so it was weird. But I was pleased to see controls reaching beyond the first places.

This was only my second doping control, after the Swiss Canyon Trail in 2024. And this time, something was new to me: DBS, or Dried Blood Spot testing.

Instead of a urine sample, they collected a small amount of blood, which is dried on absorbent material for laboratory analysis. I’d never seen this method before.

Seeing anti-doping tools evolve gives me hope. My wish is that testing becomes more accessible, so even smaller races can afford to include it. Fair competition matters at every level, whatever the prizes.

Of course, a finish-line test is only one part of the picture. What happens during months of preparation matters too. That’s why unpredictable testing outside competition is essential alongside race-day controls.

It’s a complex challenge, and no single test can solve it. But being unexpectedly selected that day felt like a step in the right direction.

We put too much into this sport for fair competition not to matter.

Have you ever been tested—or seen doping controls at your local races?

🥇 Gantrisch Trail 35k
⏱️ 2:38:46
🚀 4:44 min/km
⛰️ 33,6 kms

It’s the 5th time I ran this race and I can’t never get enough of the kind and familiar ambiance of this race.

Thanks @gantrischtrail @gantrischbikesport , you have an awesome race here 🙌 by @aleixtoda

- 3x 12min a 3:30 (2 últimos minutos a 3:25)
