As soon as the sun disappeared into the burning red horizon that night, I could not shake that overwhelming anxiety like so many people in LA. That chain of events was sadly what tens of thousands of people went through. I was at home texting with Alek who was still at the showroom on sunset. Right before I got notified to evacuate Alek texted me “there is a fire on top of Runyon Canyon”. When I looked outside, the entire hill was already on fire. Alek wanted to come pick me up but the streets were already gridlock! I grabbed whatever I could on my way out. Outside was chaos we were surrounded by fire alarms and thick smoke.I do not even remember much of my hike down the hill all the way to the chateau. I do remember an older man crying at a police officer blocking the street going up telling him “I need to go get my son he’s in a wheelchair” … my heart shattered!I vividly recall Alek running towards me, when I finally made it to Crescent Height, we both hug and cried. The last video is what Alek recorded waiting for me to get to him. We’ve always hated being apart, no matter how brief the separation. But that short hour felt like an absolute nightmare. We did not think there would be a home to go back to. It is nothing short of a miracle @losangelesfiredepartment contained that fire and saved so many lives and homes. Forever grateful for those heroes who are still battling this firestorm. ❤️‍🩹 by @alekandsteph
