“If things go wrong in November it’s about to be open season on Black bodies. What do you think will happen to Black people if that orange man is back in office?”

I don’t take lightly the platform God’s given me. It’s a great responsibility to use it. It actually felt divine that the awards fell the morning after that debate. After thanking Him, Joi and the entire Culture Creators team, we needed to have some real talk about where we are.

I will do everything I can to make sure Trump isn’t re-elected. And reminding whoever will listen of the threat he is.

“I’m tired of us letting policy be dictated by our feelings instead of a smart strategy.”

I’m clear eyed on the mission, and hope you all are too. Full speech linked in bio. #policyoverfeelings #policyoverpersonality taken in Los Angeles, California by @alenciajohnson

God is so good! My debut book is a NATIONAL BESTSELLER!

When I say that this is beyond my wildest dreams and prayers —whew!

Thank you to everyone who believed not only in me, but the message of this book. Who supported immediately when I called. Who had a vision for this book of disruptive courage that I couldn’t even see. Who have been there since day one of this journey.

I’ve done a lot of hard things in life, but writing a raw, vulnerable book has been the hardest. And putting it out into the world?! It’s been a journey like no other. And it’s paid off.

To be honest, I let go of making any list and told God to just use me. And my God — is He using me!

Little Alencia wouldn’t believe this. But she would keep going. And that little disruptor got here. On a list with bell hooks!

Let me be a testament that anything is possible. And more importantly, everything you need to change your life and the world around you — is already within you. Let my journey, and this book, be your guide.

Back to the tour content tomorrow! And trust me, Flip the Tables is just getting started. Join us on the journey. by @alenciajohnson

I’m so encouraged that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is sharing her egg-freezing journey. I, too, went on this journey less than two months ago and will be doing another cycle again.

First, vulnerable storytelling is a powerful tool for change. So much so that I dedicated a whole chapter to it in my book. Thank you, AOC, for sharing your story.

Second, access to advanced fertility treatment shouldn’t be out of reach based on income or geography. Egg-freezing isn’t covered by Medicaid or most insurance plans, nor are a host of other fertility treatments like IVF or IUI. Too many people who want to become mothers and start families are finding these scientific advances out of reach. You would think the powerful men making decisions about women’s bodies and claiming to be “pro-family” would create policies to make family planning more accessible. The hypocrisy speaks for itself.

Third, I don’t know why the Congresswoman made this decision, I only know why I did. Regardless, with the rising costs of childcare and education, the lack of gun control in too many communities, climate and environmental crises, the surveillance state we live in, cuts to health care that make giving birth more dangerous, and the list goes on — there are so many reasons people delay childbirth, regardless of if we’re partnered or not.

This journey is incredibly vulnerable and empowering. I’m grateful to have had the resources that supported this decision, an incredible health care team, and mostly, a supportive and loving community who were there at every step. by @alenciajohnson

Still reflecting on our profound Bright Sparks conversation at @bigpiclearning’s Big Bang Conference 💥

From acknowledging the current state of our democracy—which we’re ALL experiencing in real time—to discussing solutions on how we collaboratively progress forward, our panelists provided moving responses that let us know our Community is headed in the right direction. 👏🏾

Special thank you to @alenciajohnson, President @michaelsorrell of @paulquinncollege, and Miranda Acosta of @fannielouhs for your words and expertise, and thank you @bigpiclearning for hosting us at your conference! 🎉

We hope those teachers, educators, and young people in attendance continue to immerse themselves in individual and collective conversations that amplify educational creativity, advancement, and a more equitable democracy for all. 💛

James Baldwin said, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” And when we refuse to face America’s dark history, we won’t be able to change the course of our future.

There’s a reason this administration is attacking our museums, arts and cultural institutions — to control society for authoritarian gain, much like 1930’s Germany. Grateful for sister Congresswoman @ayannapressley’s ability to elevate truth to power in these times. Tuesday night on CNN. by @alenciajohnson
