We’re pleased to participate in Basel Social Club 2026: Office, on view June 14–20 in Basel.

This year’s edition occupies a vacant office building near Basel SBB, activating its floors through exhibitions, performances, music, gastronomy, and informal encounters.

Positioning the office as both subject and scenography, #BaselSocialClub engages with evolving conditions of work, time, and production in the context of digitalization, remote infrastructures, and artificial intelligence.

We look forward to contributing to this site-responsive program and to welcoming you in Basel.

Alena Valerie Rosa Mayer is a Munich-based entrepreneur and founder of @caldoworldwide , a curated online gallery at the intersection of art, technology and society.

In addition to her studies in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship & Digital Business, she gained teaching experience as a tutor at the University of Vienna and was part of the Munich delegation to SXSW 2025 and 2026 in Austin.

In addition to her entrepreneurial activities, she has experience in corporate management and corporate finance. With her interdisciplinary background, Alena Mayer combines entrepreneurial thinking with creative and innovative approaches to develop solutions for the social challenges of the future in interdisciplinary projects. by @alenibee

Today, learn more about Biotopy: A Biotic Game and Interactive Installation by Wendi Yan, Darran Zhu and Will Freudenheim.

Biotopy is a game and pipeline connecting bioreactors to a game engine, where players can grow microbes by caring for a virtual “blobby pet.”

🌐 MEET OUR RESIDENTS: ALENA MAYER

We’re excited to welcome Alena Valerie Rosa Mayer (she/her) to the @soam.earth Residency „Re:Fund Digital Futures“, running June–October 2025 in partnership with the @tumthinktank and Global Digital Futures Architects

Alena is an entrepreneur and co-founder of @caldoworldwide, a curated online gallery and publishing house operating at the intersection of #art, #technology, and #society. With a background in entrepreneurship and business administration, she merges creative innovation with business strategy to build a future-facing funding ecosystem where emerging art and tech practices can thrive.

At SOAM 2025, Alena will work on her project „Entrepreneurship at the Intersection of Art & Tech: Caldo Worldwide as a Living Case Study“. In this project, Alena will use Caldo Worldwide as a case study — a curated online gallery and publishing house that exhibits and sells digital artworks by artists, technologists, and scientists. These works engage with emerging technologies such as AI, biotech, and game engines as materials for invention, cultural imagination, and societal impact.

◽️BACKGROUND

In 2025, the SOAM Residency „Re:Fund Digital Futures“ brings together 10 interdisciplinary residents to prototype speculative institutional models for funding and maintaining #PublicInterestTechnology.

Thank you for having us at Festival der Zukunft 2025 on this years Science & Art track. We had so much fun!

At our Caldo Worldwide booth, we explored how games can test boundaries to coexist with other intelligences whether they are living systems like in Biotopy, or tools that reshape our relationship with emerging technologies. We showed three games at our booth: audio-reactive AI game Anhad by Sahej Rahal, AI simulation game Schema by Will Freudenheim, Biotech game Biotopy by Wendi Yan, Darren Zhu & Will Freudenheim

Also the talks were a highlight: INTERPLAY: Gaming at the Edge of the Artificial and the Alive
where our Co-Founder Christina Mayer talked with artist Will Freudenheim about his works Schema and Biotopy—interactive installations and biotic games exploring new modes of intelligence at the intersection of play, technology, and science.

In our second Talk Beyond the Human: Co-Creating Art with Other Intelligences we discussed with Kennedy & Swan, Will Freudenheim, and Max Haarich, what happens when artistic creation becomes a shared process, not only among humans but with artificial systems, collective intelligences, and even other species.

It was a real pleasure to co-host and moderate a conversation with Alena Mayer on the role of communities as creative engines — in design and far beyond at KHOR Design during Munich Creative Business Week.

We explored how shared values, collective spaces, and especially storytelling can shape and strengthen communities - and also bring new economic chances.

Our panel brought together powerful perspectives.
