Let us introduce you to the curatorial team behind exhibition of HIAA Fest 2026. (suomeksi kommenteissa)

Our curator:

Alex Koller-Tommola @alex_arty_farty is a Finland based cultural manager and curator. They hold a Bachelor's degree in Arts and Humanities and Master’s degree in Museum Cultures.

Alex is fascinated by art forms that are non-confirmative and stand outside of the context of traditional art venues. They are particularly drawn to experimental, avant-garde, and cross-disciplinary artforms that challenge viewers and seek to push the boundaries of mainstream art. Through their work, Alex interrogates preconceived notions of art, examining how these notions have evolved over time and been influenced by socio-political contexts. Alex firmly believes that audiences possess the power to shape the trajectory of contemporary art making by encouraging critical questions about fundamental concepts such as: What is art? Who has the agency to create art, and who determines what qualifies as art?

Our curatorial advisor:

Emma Clear @emma.clear is a visual artist, curator and culture worker operating in the capitol region in Finland. With a background in visual arts, she holds a MA in Visual Culture, Curating and Contemporary Art, a BA in Fine Art and a Diploma of Art: Sculpture. Emma’s work centres on storytelling, craft traditions, environmental considerations, and care practices, bringing together techniques in drawing and yarn crafting; writing and mushroom growing to explore feminist practices of care and resilience building during times of collective and personal upheaval.

"I tell stories all the time. It is one of the main ways that cultural expression occurs in my home country; through song and music, visual and performative arts, Ireland is full of the arts. And so I love to share personal yarns, hear others', gather them, reform them. I think this is why I make art and it is why I enjoy my curatorial practice so much. People have very interesting stories to tell and the creative work they produce show their stories in the most visceral ways. This is intriguing to me and something that envelopes by creative practice as a whole." by @alex_arty_farty
