Tonight is the night. ✨

For those of you who don’t know, my mother makes my competition gowns. I come from a normal home where I am proud to say both of my parents worked really hard to make ends meet. Regardless of financial ups and downs, they went above and beyond to make sure us kids never felt like we went without. When I decided I wanted to compete in pageants, my mom learned how to make custom gowns so I would feel special- regardless of how much we could or couldn’t spend.

My mother is truly my rock.. and that’s doesn’t end at pageantry. Here at Miss Volunteer America, Melissa is a verb. If something needs a little Magic, we “Melissa it”. She is a complete rockstar and I could not have gotten through this year without her. 💗
Tonight, I will be able to walk on stage in a gown my mother made with her own two hands. She started this pageant journey with me and it’s only fitting she gets to end it with me too.

This is for you, mom. I love you.
