When I was a teenager hiding in my room, my dad had a trick: he’d blast the volume of whatever game he was playing downstairs until my FOMO pulled me out of my room to see what he was doing.

He taught me how to play video games from the very beginning. We played Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros., PC games, board games, you name it; and as a girl, he never once made me feel like I didn’t belong in that world. He never talked down to me, never belittled me, and always treated my curiosity and competitiveness with respect. He was always open, supportive, and genuinely excited to share what he loved with me.

Over the years, we’ve traded games back and forth, I’ll make him play Overcooked and It Takes Two, and he’ll show me Age of Empires and Civilization and Zelda. There’s no one I’d rather game with. He’s patient, encouraging, and never gets frustrated. Just laughter, connection, and gratitude for the time we get to share together.

Forever thankful for a dad who was my biggest supporter and my favorite player two (because of course, I’m always player one).
