This is my sister Paola Dolores Aguilar. She’s my big (she was 5’0, so not really🤣) sister. She taught me how to love myself, she gave me my taste in movies, she helped me develop my morals growing up, she was someone I looked up to, she taught me how to dress, she’s why I go to UofI, she’s why I decided to pursue music, she’s why I fight for what I believe in, she is my best friend. Although sad I can’t have one more late night of SNL and wine with her, I’m overjoyed that she’s at peace now and she’s no longer suffering. After four and a half long years of fighting with cancer she passed away on June 4th. Within that time she NEVER let cancer define her life. She worked until the day that she absolutely couldn’t. She helped people and fought for what she believed in until she absolutely couldn’t. But she showed us that this life was HERS and not the disease that she fought with. Very thankful for the time I got to spend with her. Especially the matching tattoo I got with her before she passed ❤️ I usually don’t like to post about stuff like this but I want people to know how much of a fierce person my sister was. by @alexandro_agui

MEET OUR TEAM OF MUSICIANS‼️ Alex Aguilar is a pianist and music educator from Payette, Idaho. He began playing piano at the age of eight and has since developed a diverse background in piano performance, jazz studies, composition, arranging, musicology, and percussion. Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance with a minor in Jazz Studies from the University of Idaho. He currently teaches elementary music in Ontario, Oregon, while pursuing a master’s degree and teaching licensure at Eastern Oregon University. Alex is an active local performer for groups around the treasure valley— such as with @christinenygard.music , @sophia.pearle , & @fomo_boise 🎼🎹

With his broad musical expertise, passion for both jazz and classical music, and commitment to music education, Alex is a valued member of the FOMO team. His contributions as an orchestrator for a bulk of our original arrangements reflects a massive source of creativity, virtuosity, and prowess that is unmatched across the Idaho music community💣💎 taken in Boise, Idaho by @alexandro_agui

Pursuing a career in music is not something I thought I was capable of, or even a possibility that existed until recently. It is a privilege I was given thanks to the sacrifices my parents made (and still continue to make everyday) when they immigrated and gave up their own dreams for the dreams of mine and my siblings. I was given the privilege to CHOOSE my career — one that would be fulfilling, while to my parents work has always been something you do to survive.

@redloammagazine just published their second volume and I had the privilege of sharing the story of my family. @melanie_fz wrote a beautiful article telling that story and the impact it has had on my life as a musician, educator, human being.
