I DID IT! I thru-hiked the entire Appalachian Trail! I know a lot of you have been waiting for this post as i have been dreaming of this moment at the Katahdin sign. I must say it was everything i had hoped for and much more. I’m not sure I can adequately explain how amazing this adventure was. I feel like i have been blessed with another life out there; another life that was filled with natural beauty, challenges, incredible people, and simplicity. I really do miss it already as i ride home with my family but there’s no place like home and the people there. I look forward to rest readjusting to civilization.

I’m so happy my Mom, Dad, Sister and Nana came up to meet me! Shout out to Kristen and my dad for conquering the mighty Katahdin with me. It was really special having them with me as I finished! It was also very special to rejoin my mom and Nana at the base and we were all together again!

I’m happy that i got to finish with Moonpie and Sugar glider who i have hiked with for over half the AT! They were at the top just before me and waited for me before continuing on towards Canada (crazy).

Some of you may know that i am not really a fan of social media. This will be my last post before i remove instagram and facebook from my phone. The account will still be here if you or i ever want to look back on it. But it will be inactive. I was happy to post for all of you and keep you updated as much as i could! Thank you for all the support and love! I look forward to speaking with you all in person and tell you stories i haven’t posted!

Well this is it. I’m at the end of my journey here. This post is mostly of Katahdin with a couple other interests added in.

Next post should be of Baxter Peak Katahdin! Stay tuned! by @alexdfarrell

I found another plane wreck. Another hiker told me that the two involved were a father and son on a camping trip in the 80s. They survived, camped out over night then hiked out the next day. It’s a nice ending but I don’t know if it’s true for sure. What is evident is that this area is too remote to justify cleaning up the wreckage. If you hike the AT in the Hundred mile wilderness you won’t miss this one. by @alexdfarrell

This is the area known as the 100 mile wilderness. As the sign explains there is now town or resupply opportunities until Abol Bridge 100 miles away. Though this section looks daunting it was actually a pleasant section with some easier hiking than what Maine has thrown at me so far. There will be more posts from this area. It’s quite a special place! by @alexdfarrell

2000 MILES!!!
The end is in sight! Literally! In this post I point out Mount Katahdin from one of the earliest mountains you can spot it: The Bigelow range. From here there’s about 180 miles left! (197 from 2000.) I’m happy i got to share this moment with several other hikers! What an amazing mix of emotions here!

This has been an amazing journey. I’m trying to post a good bit for all of you but no matter how much I post you only see less than 1% of my actual journey. I’m happy to share the highlights with y’all though! Thanks for all the support and motivation it really helps! by @alexdfarrell

Here’s some amazing trail magic and some much needed rest. No crazy mountain views this post but here’s a little bit of a glimpse into hikers resting at the Cabin Hostel in Maine (and watching Shrek!) by @alexdfarrell

I did it! I made it all the way to Maine! There’s only about 260ish miles from here to Mount Katahdin!

From this point Hammerhead, Ozark and I leave the difficult trail behind us to be greeted with insanely difficult trail. Maine is tough hiking but definitely beautiful! The bunch of pictures of rocks in this post is literally the AT. Not all of Maine is like this area but it has its moments from time to time. This area is known as Mahoosuc Notch holding the reputation for the hardest mile of the whole Appalachian Trail (I Agree). It takes about an hour and a half to scramble through. Then there’s one of the steepest miles of the whole AT right out of the notch. That was a fun day. by @alexdfarrell

I know I already posted on this but here it is again with pictures instead of the one video and the history again. Also i threw in a picture of what the plane looked like before it crashed.

This plane crash is just south of trail on mount Success in New Hampshire. It occurred in poor weather conditions in November 1954. The plane is a Douglas DC3; a large twin engine passenger plane. Unfortunately two of the crew of four did die of exposure and injury awaiting rescue despite all seven aboard surviving the initial crash.

The wreckage is a very out of place object in such a remote area. The strangeness of this scene might as well be a UFO crash. It remains there as a 70 year old monument visited by those who only know its there.

I enjoyed stopping by here with Hammerhead and Ozark. It’s a very interesting place. by @alexdfarrell
