The last few months have been quite incredible. A whole new journey that I honestly didn’t expect, filled with so much learning, amazing music and unforgettable experiences.

I’m super grateful to @sankayirestaurant for trusting @sxonti and me with the opportunity to build the @sankayijazz series

@titi_luzipo Titi Luzipo created a beautiful moment with the students of St Peter’s College, bringing everyone together to sing, participate and experience jazz from a different perspective.

This is what A Day with Jazz Excellence is truly about: imparting knowledge, creating access, and allowing young people to feel like they are part of the journey. by @alexhitzeroth

Today was about more than jazz — it was about exposure, inspiration and planting seeds for the future. 🎷✨

The students of St Peter’s College had the opportunity to experience a day of Jazz Excellence, surrounded by incredible musicians and the richness of live music. To see young people experience these sounds, stories and performances firsthand is a reminder of how powerful music can be in shaping the next generation.

And this is only the beginning. ❤️

One experience, one note, one young mind at a time. There are many more to come. by @alexhitzeroth

One of the things I really wanted to do with Red Bull Symphonic this year was keep challenging what an orchestra can look and sound like.

South African music has so much range, weight and character, and I wanted the orchestra push that even further.

So when we were working on “Rise” by Sun-El Musician @sunelmusician, I had this idea of bringing Alex Hitzeroth @alexhitzeroth forward on sousaphone for those deep, sustained bass notes. I’ll be honest - there was a little bit of pushback at first, even from Alex himself 😂

But it became one of my favourite musical moments of the night.

Alex is an incredible musician who plays with the likes of the Johannesburg Big Band, JPO, and Mi Casa, and it’s been brilliant seeing him get the recognition he deserves for this moment.

For me, this is exactly why we keep opening up the idea of what an orchestra can be.

Good music gives you room to try things. And when it works, it really works.
