I’m officially a certified yoga teacher!!

These past 5 months of training have been the most transformative time of my life. I’m bowing down to every moment of this journey. the love, support, community, tears, shedding and triggers. Every part of it led me here.

These past months felt like a coming home. To something that has been with me for lifetimes. It felt like honoring the little girl in me who was always doing yoga poses, practicing pranayama without realizing it, and who was always told she was wise beyond her years. She has been such a guide for me throughout this journey.
It’s been a beautiful experience to reparent myself, while also allowing my inner child to parent me.

I also want to acknowledge my teenage self.
While this training was expansive and deeply fruitful, it was also extremely triggering. As a spiritual, neurodivergent Black woman growing up in a predominantly white town, school was a painful place for me to exist. It was so isolating. I was medicated for over 6 years, and that completely disconnected me from my body, emotions, autonomy, creativity, social skills, and so many parts of myself that made me me. I feel like I’m still regulating my nervous system from that experience years later. I remember telling myself that this was an opportunity to be the student I always knew I was, but couldn’t be in that environment. and shortly after the training started one of the people closest to me in the world was in the hospital dying from cancer for the first 2 months. I didn’t have the capacity for the training. I was behind on the reading, the homework, and I struggled to retain the information. I felt like i was failing and felt so unworthy of being there.

This was a time I really had to sit with my shadow. So many wounds from high school showed up. Self doubt, fear of failing, not being worthy, disappointing others, not being enough, not being able to be everything all at once.

But I was met with grace and understanding from my trainers, mentor, and friends in the training the whole time.
I am so grateful for that.
