Some of my favorite fragments from Kafka...

"The meaning of life is that it stops."

"A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us."

"I have spent all my life resisting the desire to end it."

"Self-control is something for which I do not strive. Self-control means wanting to be effective at some random point in the infinite radiations of my spiritual existence."

"And is my request not sincere? Certainly it is sincere. And is it not perhaps also insincere? Of course it is insincere, and how insincere it is!"

"Do not waste your time looking for an obstacle—maybe there is none."

"Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly."

"Paths are made by walking."

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” — Aristotle

This day brought me back to myself in so many ways.

Thank you to the incredibly kind, talented, and empathetic @henry.zinn for sharing and capturing it all.

P.S. This song got me through high school.
If you have a dream, the fact that it exists in your mind and heart means it’s already possible.

"Your days are numbered. Use them to throw open the windows of your soul to the sun. If you do not, the sun will soon set, and you with it."

Floating
In their iridescent bubble,
“Time for life,” the universe calls.
A little girl — with ancient eyes and gentle claws — replies,
“I’ll starve.”
“I mustn’t move,” she stalls.

A little boy, the same age, quietly appears,
A faded ball cradled in his palm.
He sits beside her,
Offers his paw.

They watch the walls flicker —
Bright, then dim — then bright again.

Nestled together, limb to limb,
They trade promises through whispers on the wind.

“Will you take your post?”
“Of course,” says the ghost.
“In this life — and most.”

A gust of wind brings a chill.
“You left your ball,” she murmurs still.

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night's decay
Ushers in a drearier day.
