For The Guardian Saturday magazine, I’ve spent the last couple of months speaking to some very fit and fast people (in between their competitions, tournaments and World Cup matches 😅) to find out their best tips for getting a good night’s sleep and how it helps them to win Olympic golds, break world records and compete for national sides when the eyes of the world are watching.

As very ambitious people with highly intense routines, all the athletes I spoke to have a lot of wise advice on everything from how to make a cardboard Olympic Village bed more comfortable to how to deal with stress to get a decent night before a big race (tips I could very much do with following!)

With much thanks to editor extraordinaire @katelloud by @alexlsims

Four days trekking through the Colombian jungle to the ‘Lost City’ 🍃

*won’t miss being perpetually sodden with sweat and having legs dotted with mosquito bites.

** will miss the watermelon and pineapple snack platters that gratefully appeared after every gruelling hill, watching fire flies light up the jungle trees, and the wonderful new friends made along the way 🧡.
